I'm rather shocked that Car and Driver lambasted the new Escalade like this, frankly. I guess the only shock is the Infiniti, really, but maybe because the testers hated the interior materials of the Escalade so much it didn't matter what happened after that. The GL certainly is not as capable as a truck (read: tow vehicle) nor is the Audi, as they are not built on true utility pickup truck frameworks like the Caddy and Lincoln. Motor Trend has one comparing the Escalade and RR Supercharged, with the Escalade winning - crazy how reversed these can be.

You can call it bias or whatever you want, the truth is different testers and editors are just that, different.

I saw the test comparing the Range Rover and the Escalade you mentioned, and ACTUALLY the Range Rover in THAT test was *not* the SC one because the SC one was deemed too expensive, thats why the Range Rover lost, it was far too slow.

Go back 4 years and Edmunds (who is normally based on this site for import bias), tested the 2003 Escalade, the G500, H2, Navigator and LX470. The H2 came in DEAD last, but what surprised EVERYONE was that the Escalade WON, even ahead of the perennial favorite LX470.

It all balances out in the end.

It actually was the supercharged that was tested. Motortrend has no idea what they're talking about when they say the Escalade doesn't have space!! What an idiot. So you rate the Audi and Mercedes which are two small little pieces of shit higher?? Thats funny...

Important is how the car makes you feel, Q7 might have all those cheap gadgets that makes it a "better" car, but who would pay 60k for a fugly car like that. Mercedes is the only car there that could compete with the Escalade in terms of style and class.

Id take the Audi Q7 over the Mercedes GL *ANY* day of the week. That GL is the most hideous, out of proportion Mercedes with the cheapest interior I have ever seen... Oh wait no... thats the R500, but the GL falls right in behind it. What an embarassment to the G-Wagen that came before it.
