There has to be a refreshed 2025 XT6 - or else

Seeing the reviews of the all-new 2024 Traverse and it will kill sales of the XT6 unless there's a revamped Cadillac version. The Buick and GMC versions (which will be 2025s) are much improved as well. Gone is the 3.6 V6 in favour of a far torquier and more fuel efficient 2.5L turbo.

I know that the XT6 was supposed to die off and make room for the Vistiq but with GM getting cold feet from the leveling off of EV sales, there's no question that GM will lose sales volumes if the either kill the XT6 after 2024 or don't refresh it. I can't see them retiring the XT6 before 2025 but nor do I see the XT6 soldiering on as-is.

The challenge is that if GM makes the XT6 too nice, they may have a hard time differentiating the Vistiq from the XT6. It's a real dilemma.

So what do youse guys think GM will do with the XT6 for 2025 - retire it, stand pat or refresh?

It would stand to reason the the 2025 XT6 gets the same changes as its siblings, but it doesn't appear that way. GM Authority says it's staying put sav for paint colors here in North America. China, however, seems to be getting a revamped model. So, who knows?

I think GM was expecting a different rollout and reception for the Lyriq and Vistiq and had zero plans to refresh the XT5 or XT6. Now they're scrambling and having to contemplate a world where ICE and EV products occupy the same product market niche. Since both the XT5 and XT6 are getting updated in China, GM wouldn't be starting from scratch.

I think they're damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting anything for later this calendar year. Still I was hoping that they'd do a mid-year refresh.

Here's the thing about GM - they make decisions to not refresh and then sales tank because the vehicles fall even further behind the competition (which is refreshing their vehicles). Then, they look at the bad numbers and the accountants calculate that they can't amortize retooling for a refresh next year over such a small volume. And then they pull their advertising (not that I've ever seen an ad for an XT6) and the vehicle withers.

This car has limped along since 2020 when GM took half-measures from the get-go.

As I've stated multiple times on GM Authority ... GM has somewhat given up on American customers and is focused on their china sales. Case in point ... GM (Queen Mary) stated they will NOT be building any hybrid vehicles anymore. They will either be ICE or BEV ... nothing in between; however, GM in china is building plug-in hybrids for that market. I feel like the move out of the renaissance center is the first step to relocating their corporate headquarters to china at some point in the future. Might be 10 or 20 years from now, but I won't be surprised when that takes place.

I've been impressed by the Chevy Traverse, it has the most cargo and passenger room in its class and it has more cargo space then the Escalade (not the ESV).
I would like to see Cadillac create a gas powered vehicle that matches the Traverse in size but exceeds the Traverse in the luxury and power categories.
I currently have a 2019 Escalade ESV Platinum. I want to keep the Escalade but wanted something smaller for short drives and errands. I test drove the current XT6 and it felt small and not luxurious. I test drove the Traverse and loved it but I holding out hoping Cadillac will have something gas powered to match the Traverse by 2026.

I love the exterior of the XT6 and don't think it would take that many tweaks to refresh it.

Yes, it could be lengthened a bit but that would mean expensive retooling for body panels, glass, etc - and it would add weight so hurt fuel economy.

Here's what I would like to see:

  • Nicer use of materials around the shifter console.
  • The curved glass IP/infotainment in other newer/tweaked Cadillacs
  • Massage front seats at least as an option
  • Ventilated second row seats (at least the outboard ones)
  • Modernized front clip/headlamps a la the reworked XT4
  • Move to global B architecture to enable the full SuperCruise experience
  • An option for a 3.0TT that would put its 0-60 in the low to mid 5s range
  • More luxuriously appointed seats

I didn't say that we will see it, this is just what I'd like to see. Priced right, it could keep me out of a BEV for a few more years...

It's interesting that they refreshed (mildly) the XT4 and the Optiq is/was supposed to replace it. Also, the XT5 was supposed to have been gone by now and its intended replacement (the Lyriq) is soon entering its third model year.

GM is clearly rethinking how quickly it's moving Cadillac to an all-EV future but I think their strategy is evolving way too slowly. The issue with the XT6 is that 2025 will be its sixth model year without any substantial changes. I've never seen a vehicle sell well when it's that old.

Spousal unit. I told her to get looking if she wants something. We have a 7 month old Flat Coated Retriever who will be around 55 pounds. Her Audi A7 isn't the right fit for a dog.

The sad thing is she is a neat freak OCD. Her car is a 2018 with about 30,000 miles. It's immaculate. We won't get squat for it.

I leased a 2020 XT6 and loved it. I then leased a 2023 XT6 and still love it. However I get bored with cars and if Cadillac doesn't do something and change the appearance of the XT6 I intend on getting the Lincoln Aviator. Also my friend has a 2023 Hundai and it has both express up AND down windows for all 4 doors and mine still has express down and not up for the rear windows. How cheap is that! Also some much less expensive cars have expanded the screen size for their navigation system and the XT6 hasn't. What gives Caddy?

The lack of rear window express up is a safety feature because of young children and the potential for getting hands caught - or worse.

Just watched this video on the somewhat refreshed Aviator

Then I did a build and price of the 2024 XT6 - in Canada, a Sport w/Platinum is $78k CAD (incl destination). I can't yet do a build for a 2025 XT6
The 2025 Aviator? in Canada, only the Reserve trim is available for build and price. With the $6700 CAD luxury package (similar to Cadillac's platinum), it stickers out at $89k CAD.

Now, there's a lot about the XT6 that I prefer to the Aviator but when it comes to the platform, powertrain, sound system, and luxury features (like soft-close doors and massaging seats), the Lincoln easily wins this comparison.

I guess the question is: would we buy a 2025 XT6 if it was $7500 USD more than the current one but had a 400 hp powerplant, a refreshed interior, and a full suite of competitive luxury features?

My belief is that GM decided long ago that this role would go to the Vistiq and so there's no real plan for an updated XT6.

I'm new here and back in an American car. My wife has my Step-mothers(passed 2018) 2012 CTS with only 54,000+ on it. I have not looked at the sales of the XT6, nor do I know which XT sells the most. But, I prefer the look of the 6 even though I just lost my 2017 X5 BMW to a total loss wreck in June. The X5, or as I called mine "Dark Vader" for the Sapphire Black and Coffee interior. 355HP and 6-8 speeding tickets to this lead footed, can seem to learn, need for speed guy.

Now it's off to research on the XT's. A pic of the CTS and "Dark Vader" RIP! My dad always loved a Landau top. from his days driving company Thunderbirds and Continentals. Those were half tops, he went the extra mile and boy does this thing get some looks. Never seen another one like it, plenty w/o the top but not like this. Many offers to buy, but "The Boss" says No, No & No!!!

I like the the way it looks outside and inside. The XT6 design is so conservative.
I'm not the big fun of big LCD screens. I like the fact I still have analog gauges and LCD in the middle.

No doubt they supposed to upgrade it as competitors does.
My wish list would be:

Keep the conservative design.
Keep analogue gauges with big central LCD.
A bigger CUE screen
Use soft touch material on lower door panels and lower center console.
Make a V trim or add more powerful engine to the options, like 400+ hp
Improve ambient light, it's almost invisible even in the dark and has fixed color. That one I had in XTS was bright and nicer yellow ich color.
Add option: seats massage.
Add option: soft close doors
Keep the manual buttons to control A/C (I hate to have everything on touch screens)

Assuming the width of the Super Cruise driver facing camera is an indicator, the 2025 XT6 my dealer has still has the old architecture Super Cruise (limited roads). Expect the spouse to go with the Traverse eventually when she demands 3rd row for the grands. There is a chance #1 grandson will be big enough (growing like a weed) for the front seat soon. In that case, she'll likely keep the Lyriq. She loves that car.

I was at the dealership yesterday and they had several 2025 XT-6s. My beef is that the dash is still that of the Traverse. Meanwhile, the Escalade and Lyriq have updated displays that are very futuristic. Likewise, BMW, Audi and Genesis have greatly upgraded display. I will not be replacing my XT 6 to get another out dated display, and if they wait too long, I may have to consider alternatives.

Cadillac has made the statement they are discontinuing the XT6 after the '25 model year is over.

There's some speculation that the XT vehicles might live on a little longer now that GM is yet again shifting production and delaying its conversion to an all EV lineup.
