I did have a lock smith bypass the system with resisters. The car worked just fine for a long time but now its saying the theft problem. She will not start. What can I do?

Probably need to test the resistor circuit to verify one is not fried.

My first pass at bypass ended up loosening up and had to redo them.

Also, mine are at the low end of the acceptable range and when it is really cold and damp, it falls below acceptable range throwing the same security symptom

The resistance of the resistor needs to be within 5% of the actual key pellet.
Standard resistors don't follow what the General gave to the pellet resistors, so you have to manually measure standard resistors in the range you need to be within the 5%
All resistors have a tolerance range, usually 10%, but could be 1,5,10, or 20% depending on the last (4th) color band on the resistor.
Gold= 5%
silver=10 %
No forth band=20%

Mix & Match to get to the correct resistance -

Two resistors in parallel lowers total resistance. Two resistors in series raises total resistance.
