Okay. So how many XLR fans do we have out there? Being that this car is just about ready to hit the showrooms, it comes out of the "Future Models" section and into its own area.. So.. What do you think of the Cadillac that shares platforms with the Chevrolet Corvette?

I also like the XLR, but I think it took too long for it to reach production. It doesn't look as show-stopping as it once did.

And I agree with the power issue. But I think that'll be fixed in the upcoming years.

I wonder what the rear-wheel horsepower will be considering it takes more energy to power the rear wheels than it does the front (closer to the engine). I bet it'll be about the same as the current STS.

I'd love to see more horsepower as well. Maybe there will be a V-series version of the XLR.. That interior picture is the nicest I've seen so far.. They've managed to keep it looking decent while going the Nissan Altima route.. (Why, oh why?)

I think the ultimate luxury-performance roadster should be extremely plush inside with amazing performance numbers... I think a few car companies (Infiniti/Nissan especially) came out with their 'wierd' looking designs BEFORE Cadillac got the XLR out BECAUSE it took so long for the XLR to be ready..

Altogether, I like the car a lot.. I hope to see a few on the road very soon...

The XLR is (and will continue to be) a perfect example of what's wrong at Cadillac (and GM as a whole).
First and most importantly is excessive product developement time. As previously stated, the car has taken 4 years to come to the table. Much has changed in that time. 315hp is nowhere near enough to establish the car in the competition it will find itself. Cadillac has committed to changing it's whole line to RWD or AWD, so the XLR's RWD platform is no big news. The company has just released a much needed softer version of it's hard-edged design on the "16" show car and the public seems to really like it. This will no doubt draw remarks from both the press and public like "they should've made it look more like the 16".
So basically what will it be bringing to the party?
Let's see, a dated "been there, done that" design, bottom of it's class performance, and a shared chassis with a Chevy.
Add to that, the guaranteed long list of recalls and service bulletins that it's sure to inflict on its owners and what's left?
Sorry, it MIGHT have been a hot car a couple years ago but now I think it's lost whatever edge it might have had.
I didn't like it as the Evoq, and I like it even less as the XLR.
They should've done a nice, clean design car and called it the Eldorado. Take that "Art and Science" design crap and toss it in the dumpster.
I would LOVE to know what Bob Lutz HONESTLY thinks about the car. They gotta remember, it's all about the product!

To make a hit, you need to ask yourself these questions, and be able to say YES;

1. Does the car grab you in the heart and make you want it?
2. Does it offer at least the performance, features and comfort of its intended competition?
3. Does the execution of the car make it possible to have above average reliability?
4. Is the price at least reasonable?
You answer yes to those questions, and you got a HIT!

GM doesn't build any car that will out perform the Corvette. Until GM does away with this form of thought, this car will never reach it's full performance potential.

Lot of you are actually incorrect
1. XLR is actually based on C6 platform(C6 is rumored to be better than c5/z06 in both power and handling).
2. Only competition of XLR currently is SL500, and SC430 and such and it has enough power to stay with both.(jaguar and amg is exception to this and v series should take care of both)
3. It's been told that there is enough room for a supercharger treatment so it's safe to assume that V series will definitely have the power that everyone is asking for
4. With variable cam that controls both intake and exhaust, it should help the car accelerate quickly from down low to up high in RPM band. Not to mention 5 speed automatic and more hp/torque.

You're right. The XLR is based on the upcoming C6 Corvette. As luck would have it, since the XLR comes to market first, it WILL be the test mule for the chassis so get ready folks.
Also, your comment about GM never producing a vehicle that would out-perform the Vette is incorrect. Basically, you're right but, there have been a few over the years. The Buick Grand National and subsequent GNX were both quicker in the 1/4 and in the 40-70mph runs. The Syclone would also outrun a Vette. I'm sure there are others, these just came to mind first.
As for competition for the XLR, I think there's a few more out there too. Jaguar, BMW, Porsche, Chrysler, Aston Martin just to name a few, all have (or will have by the time XLR hits) high performance roadsters

hey now i didn't say anything about xlr beating a vette maybe v-series will be somewhere in c5 figure but it won't be a vette killer. Besides by the time XLRv is out newly improved c6 will be out(lot of speculation on this one. lot of rumors of c6 being few hundred pounds lighter with base model in current z06 figures). XLR in comparison to all the roadsters you've mention differs greatly in price. I guess that's where XLRv comes in.

Are you saying that you think the C6 Vette will be out by this summer? I hadn't heard that. I was under the impression that XLR would preceed the C6 Vette by several months at least.
My question is how will they (GM) justify the price difference between the Vette and the XLR considering their similarities.
Also, the price of the XLR will put it in a unique situation. It's too expensive to compete against cars like the Miata, Boxster, Corvette, Z4, etc. And it's too cheap to be expected to compete against the true upper echelon cars like the Z8, SL55 AMG, etc. The only REAL close competition (price-wise at least) is the SL 500 which is a little more expensive, and the SC430 which is a little less expensive. The price-point is somthing that MAY make it hard to define what it's competition REALLY is.

I said XLRv not XLR. SL55 is same as SL500 except that it's an performance oriented version which XLRv will be.

Reguardless of the platform C5 or C6, I would still love to have one in my garage. I think it is a step in the right direction for Cadillac considering that they killed the one of the best looking cars on the road(Eldorado). I hope Cadillac see the error they made and re-introduces the Eldorado in a few years, and continue to improve the XLR.

If you think the XLR looks nice, take a look at the latest story about it in the Automotive News. It has a picture of the XLR and the original Evoq concept side-by-side. The Evoq looks even better than I remember it looking when you see it next to the XLR.
Unfortunately, a lot of good looks were lost in the transition to production.
