So, the White Zombie is dead. The chief of police blew a yield sign at a traffic circle and I hit him hard. Both bags blew, car is totaled. This after I spent all that time replacing the TCC soleniod.

Here's how my life has been the past 2 months:
1) Got laid off
2) Wife of 16-years tells me she doesn't want to be married anymore
3) Totaled my Caddy

2009 is shaping up to be a pretty crappy year.

Oh yeah, no collision on the Caddy and there's no way that cop is going to be at fault. No tickets were issued.

I'll be taking the wheels and Corsa exhaust system off of it and junking it. If anyone is interested in the whole thing let me know.

Jim

Damn dude. Sorry I hear of your misfortunes. I remember when you rebuilt that car piece by piece from the flood.

Well, seems like things can only get better from here. Keep your tail up, brother.
That's what I figure. I'm buying lottery tickets tomorrow. Actually I have a interview for a decent job tomorrow. Hopefully that will go well.

Thanks,
Jim

I can't wait to see what the police report shows. When I left they said that they "were still trying to determine exactly what happened" and accused me of driving up the shoulder. The reason the car was across the white line was because I swerved (unsuccessfully) to avoid him. No summonses were issued, but they can issue one after their "investigation". I have my lawyer looking at it already.

Well, I don't know you, but this kind of thing goes political pretty quick, don't it? The cop hit you, and you discovered the Wall.

Tell the woman you'll take her back based on a set of ultimatums you chose.

Stay cool, and stay legal. Don't go bonkers! That's the tough part.

90% of all the cops I have met are complete dicks. I have to deal with the DuPage Sheriff at work quite often when people steal stuff and there is only one deputy I actually like. There is also a Lisle cop that wears gloves with Chevy bowties on them and he is pretty cool. He owns an Iroc Camaro.

Yes, the blue wall went up immediately.

The thing with the woman is not repairable, it's pretty complicated as you might imagine.

Trying not to go bonkers.

Yep. I've learned a lot in the past month or two. Who my friends are and aren't, mostly. Help came from places I didn't expect, and didn't from where I thought it would.

It'll take time, but I'll get it all sorted out.

I work at an insurance claims office, so see all the time how cops get away with crap that other people couldn't. It's infuriating. Was he in a police cruiser or his own private vehicle? Either way, I would insist on getting their insurance information and file a claim yourself, if he hasn't already done it. Also, I wouldn't be too quick to get rid of your car. The reason I say this is because if it has a salvaged title, you're going to want proof that it was restored, or they will deduct from the value. If you must get rid of it, document everything...take lots and lots of pictures keep all your receipts and get a bill of sale (even if it's just hand-written) from whomever buys it.
I actually think you have a pretty good case. From the picture, it looks like you probably hit him in the front fender/front quarter panel area? If so, that would support the fact that you didn't have time to stop because he pulled out right in front of you...and if you were in a roundabout with the right-of-way and he had a yield sign..I don't see how an insurance company could possibly deny your claim. If they do..your options are to contact the state Insurance Commissioner's Office (insurance companies hate that) or file a claim in conciliation court.

Oh, wait..I think I may have seen the pictures wrong. Did he pull out from your right? So you swerved and hit the rear of his car? If you hit the rear of his car..or you were driving over the posted speed limit..you could still be found partially at fault..but it's still worth a claim...you might get something back out of it.

No, you were right. He blew a yield sign on my left, and I hit him directly in his front right tire. I will file a claim as soon as I get his insurance information.

Thanks,
Jim
