Well, BMW is still repairing my 545i Touring. After they do, we're driving it straight to the Jaguar dealership. I asked him if he really wanted the BMW after the crash its been in, he said "can anyone really want a BMW at any time"

We have arranged a deal. The Jaguar S-Type 4.2 V8 Sport, with some nice options on it, comes to £46,500. The BMW, once repaired, will be worth £39,000. He is going to pay me the £7,000 and Im going to get him the S-Type.

The one he has specced up here with me this morning, is a Jaguar S-Type 4.2 Sport, in Radience Red, with Melbourne 18" wheels, and Perforated leather Sport Two tone seats in Light Sand/Warm Charcoal with Grey Stained Birds Eye Maple and Warm Charcoal interior.

He has selected the following options:

-Xenon Winter Pack III
-Sport Select Pack
-Monaco Split Rim Cast Alloy Wheels
-FULL SIZE Spare wheel
-Sports Seats with Perforated Leather
-Adaptive Cruise Control
-Rear Electric Sunblind
-Jaguar Alpine Premium Sound
-JaguarVoice
-Navigation System
-TV Tuner with Teletext
-Bluetooth Connection

It makes no difference to me, because I am not adding any money to this, I was going to give him my BMW anyway, regardless fo the crash damage, so if he wants to trade it in, I'll go with him, since I have been doing this longer than him :sneaky: and probably get a discount by paying via part ex and cash.

cool! I have always liked Jaguar's interiors, very warm and cozy in comparison to BMW.

They are, im pleased that he chose that, although i did kind of direct him towrds it.

He lieks Jags too, he learned to drive in a 1977 XJ6 Coupe.

I'm not very knowledgeable about Jags, but I know for a very long time starting about in the 70's and up until the '90s they were extremely unreliable and expensive to repair. My friends uncle had an '82 XJ6 (IIRC) that he would have given to him for absolutley free because it was such a pain, and it needed so much work. Both of the shop teachers back at my high school owned late '70s XJ6's and one of them owned a XJ12 Coupe. I guess they both got into restoring Jags.

and I also really like the late 90's- 2002 XJ8's especially the Vanden Plas/ Super V8. Heres an example of an '02 Super V8, which is basically the super luxurious Vanden Plas with the XJR's supercharged V8.

The first one was nice when new, after a while they fell to pieces. THe second was much improved! Great cars.

Im looking at a XJR, and i owned one of those 1982 XJs, but it was new, so it didnt have mabny issues, and in the early 90s i had an old style XJ12 but it was new if you get me.

I still recall the rumors of Jag's unreliability. Sorta... buy a car and not drive it 280 days a year... I think one of the car mags has been having ghosts in their long term tester... But, who knows, might turn out good for you. Good luck man.

If it has issues it goes back. Its brand new so it **shouldnt** go wrong. At least it doreesnt havea great big "modification" made my something big, on the side though.

I cant wait to drive it :D

Did the XJ12 have massive amounts of power? I mean they don't have that much hp for a V-12. I think the XJ40 models (1987-94) had like 275hp from their 5.3 liter V-12. My uncle drove one for a little while and he said it had unbelievable passing power. How good are they performance wise?

The one i had (1992) was fantastic.

I remember collecting it fromt he factory, and i was driving up an on ramp to the motorway, and i buried my foot in the carpet and it was so silent i thought somethign had broken!

It was doing 120 before i knew it and i had to slow down

It had fantastic power!

this is basically my favorite Jag of all time:
1996 XJ12 LWB. New style & V12 which was only available in this body style for 2 years.

Jaguars always used really exotic materials in their cabins. Lambswool carpeting, a nicer type of leather, burled walnut inlaid with peruvian boxwood etc, etc. and other then Bentley and Rolls Royce, their the only car company to put polished walnut picnic trays in the back of their front seats, now thats cool!

Here's how I think of it: (For foreign auto manufacturers)

British: Very luxurious, lots of wood and leather, very warm and inviting, and not very reliable. (but thats changing)

Germans: Very well engineered, can last forever, but german cars come across as somewhat sterile when compared to the british.

Italians: very fast, attention grabbing, but quite unreliable (FIAT for instance), and they never seem to sell well in America ( the mainstream models; Fiat, Alfa Romeo)

French: where do I start?

Japanese: great engineering, extremely reliable, but somewhat lacking in design and passion. For instance take a look at the interiors of a G35 coupe v. Eldorado ETC.

In Comparison, the G35 comes off as cold and uninviting in comparison to the warm, sumptious look in the ETC. I feel this is because there are a lot of plastics used in the G35, as opposed to the Zebrano wood used in the Caddy.

Thats pretty much right for the luxury brands at least, although FIAT depreciates anywhere in the world, their cars are poor.

Even as far as Rover, british cars are elather and wood, sadly Rover is now defunct and dead, but i posted links to the pictures of the 75, which was just like a Jaguar.

Much cheaper though.

Alfa Romeos are stuning cars, i would love to own one. If they would ever work....

The rest are right IMO

Have you got the picture of the G35? Is that liek an infiniti Version of the NIssan 350Z?

Its all.....GREY!

yep, the G35 is a Z with a longer wheelbase and 2 rear seats. quite a nice car if i do say so myself, and i believe wood trim is optional in the coupe, I know its optional in the sedan.

Let me add, I love British cars, they really do know how to do luxury. Ive never liked the S type though, if I could get a Jag of my choice, it would be an XJR, its a steal when compared to the S 55 AMG :sneaky:

In all my years of reading brochures, reading magazines, going to the autoshows, looking at cars on ebay and stuff, this is what I notice.
I wonder what kind of careers deal with this type of stuff.

The Jaguars XJs ("X300") made 1995 and later are exceptionally reliable, especially with the 4.0L inline 6. The most common electrical hiccups are in the radio. Big deal, dump the radio.

Late 90s V8 engines with nikasil cylinder linings are BAD news, same applies to BMW 7s.

Pretty much all 1995/96 V8 BMWs actually. The Nikasil thing was a real disaster.

I-LUV-CADDYS... I believe it would be more correct to say the Swedish, i.e. Volvo and Saab are the "sterile" brands. The best terminology for the Germans in my opinion is simply form following function, or purpose-driven design.
