What is the best sounding exhaust for my 2005 3.6 CTS? I like the look of the Corsa. I want it to be the closest to a "muscle car" sound as possible. Is there any good systems, or ways to use a CTS-V system? Maybe some sound clips.

Thanks, im new to the forum and would llike to start being a contributing member

Here is another option. Get a local muffler shop to make two pipes to bypass the rear two mufflers. Use 2" stainless pipe and use the stock hanger locations. Use your own tips. With turn downs the sound is pretty mellow and not like fart tubes. This should cost about $60 to do the pipes.

Hello Chevyhighperformance.

So you replaced your stock mufflers with straight pipes? Did you notice better acceleration or did you do this along with something else at the same time so you therefore cannot say?

What exhaust set up do u have?

At some point I'm going to replace my resonator with that 2.25" X-pipe because from what I'm reading here it does not make the exhaust much louder through the stock mufflers and it gives a few ponies.

Ideally, I'd like to do the X-pipe and straight pipes replacing my mufflers but I'm almost sure that would be too loud.

I therefore cannot decide if I'll do:
1. X-pipe with stock mufflers
2. stock resonator with straight pipe instead of mufflers
3. X-pipe with V mufflers
4. X-pipe with 2" inside diameter glasspacks

I'll definitely NOT do the V-exhaust and kill my torque

I really feel there's 10+ whp to be had in this exhaust and I refuse to pay $800+ on a Corsa or Borla to find it.

Please reply

Thanks

Go to an exhaust specialist and cut off the exhaust behind the mufflers. Then slip on different mufflers to check the sound.
That's how I chose mine

So, the muffler shop allowed you to try out different mufflers???

Hey 3600 - I did my Magnaflow x-pipe and tips last Thursday, have not had the chance to post about it - Mixed thoughts on the x-pipe, less sound out the back than I expected - there is a small but noticeable improvement, not high pitched as some where saying, but a little deeper tone - again, not as much as I was hoping for...And I cannot say I feel any difference on power, I mean if anything it is 5 hp or something, so not like you could tell anyway...Tips look really good, I will take some pics - 4" diam polished stainless magnaflows..

Yup! Mine did...

Yes, I replaced the rear mufflers with 2 inch straight pipes. The pipes turn down at the end like the stock pipes. I had the guy expand the 2" pipe to fit over the stock pipes. I bought SS band clamps to attach the bypass pipes to the stock pipes just incase I didn't like the sound so I could easily go back to stock. We tested the sound while the car was on the rack and I was happy with the sound so I had him just weld the pipes. We used the stock hanger locations.

I noticed the car pulling harder above 4000 RPM.

My exhaust setup is stock up to the 2" muffler bypass pipes.

The sound is more mellow than the fart tubes. Sound is very subjective, but I kinda like the sound. It's still a V6 and you can only do so much. The cats and center resonator take the edges off the sound. A while ago, I researched some aftermarket exhausts. One used 2" pipe and the other used 2.25 inch pipe. They both said HP gains were about 12 HP at the wheels. The aftermarket exhausts both have a center resonator and mufflers at the ends.

Which did you wind up going with?
The mufflers you see in thefilm, but different tips. The Magnaflow tips you see in the first film were too loud to my taste.

The mufflers are from RC-Racing. I have no idea where they are from. Could even be an in-house product. They still look good and have no rust after 2 years.

which one the 1st or 2nd
One film shows the mufflers, the other the Magnaflow tips. The Magnaflow tips work like trumpets. So if you want loud, then that is what you could chose ;)
