I dont think Dean has ever been mentioned as a threat to Florida (though its got along way to go still), but man I have alot of friends in S.A. and you guys are just not getting a frieken break from the rain this summer!

I asked my buddy if the I-35 underpass downtown had flooded yet and he said most definitely so. If Dean manages to make landfall in Texas, San Antonio is just going to float away.

It's all the same here... Tampa never sees major hurricanes, even being smack dab in the middle of the damn state, ON THE GULF!

I think Florida still has a possibility of getting this storm. These hurricanes are so unpredictable.. But, this IS a VERY strong Hurricane. It will be a 3 or 4 by the time it hits land.. You're probably safe being inland, but the coast will be a disaster area...

Yeah yeah, its always gonna be a category 3 or 4 until it actually hits and is just a tropical depression. The media loves the thought though and Home Depot will be selling a crap load of generators until then.

You took the words *RIGHT* out of my mouth. Statistically speaking, hurricanes that gain immense strength during their travel way out in the gulf, conk out by the time they hit land. If not, the coasts would be absolutely uninhabitable. Even Katrina was a high 3/low 4 by the time she made landfall, and just like in S.A., her damage had little to do with her wind, and more her immense amount of rainfall and the waves of water brought in from the gulf.

Strangely, some of the most disastrous hurricanes have gained their intensity in their last few hours before landfall... The ultimate case-in point is of course, Andrew; who was written off as a low category blip on the radar screen until it ROARED ashore completely without warning.

What's your total rainfall so far for the year in San Antonio?
depends on your exact location
http://www.srh.noaa.gov/ewx/html/cli/2007coopmonrain.htm
according to that chart I had 29" through May.

Jan-July was our wettest ever with 38" "officially"
but if you use that first chart, add 20" for June-July, I may be at 49"
http://www.srh.noaa.gov/ewx/html/wxevent/2007/jul2007.htm

add the 7" i got yesterday (in addition to whatever august rainfall) means I'm pushing 60" so far.

average annual is 28" haha

I'll throw my 2 cents in. I agree. I think Florida has a chance for this hurricane as well. The GFDL model has been progressively hooking further and further north and east.

I started my preliminary hurricane supply shopping today.

Of course I also have a vested interest in the Cancun area and don't want it to hit there. Mr Pan and I have a 15th anniversary vacation set up for December in Cancun.

Based solely on the title of this thread, I was going to come in here and tell you to bite me. Then I saw it was about the hurricane, and having lived through Ivan, Charlie, etc, I can't joke about hurricanes.
