Take that "my fast"! Raced a last generation Jetta!

I'm not sure if it was a 1.8T or a 2.0, but it was a black Jetta w/o the base wheelcovers. IIRC it looked identical to this, I'm almost positive these are the wheels it had.

Anyways, I was next to him at a stoplight, it went green and we both kinda took off pretty hard, next thing I hear his engine winding out pretty hard and I take her to the floor and pass him like he's standing still. I'm pretty sure it was the 2.0, because I've ridden in a Golf with that motor and it was a dog, whereas I've raced my buddies '98 A4 1.8T with the 5 speed manual and I beat that, but not that easily. Maybe this one was an auto 1.8T?

No, probably just a run of the mill 2.0L.

Auto or stick, a 1.8T would be pretty close either way, at least only stock.
Nice kill Chad! I cant stand Jettas, let alone the people who drive them. My buddy has an '04 GLI 6 speed. Drove it once,it was pretty quick, but not that impressive.
Nice kill.

VW's Beetles are all over out this way. It is the favorite chick car. I would dearly love to blow one away just for warm up practice!
probably the 2.slow.

my freind still has his '01 1.8T 5spd... I like that car alot... and its pretty quick for that it was.

tell tale sign is the 1.8T badge on the trunk, 2.0 dosn't have any badges.

I like the interior, tranny shifts really nice and the guages at night, alot. I've always kinda had a thing for that generation Jetta with the TDI and a 5spd... it'd be a car I like.
The Jetta is queer. Good kill.

My wife and I personally had a TDI an 02 ot be exact, we got rid of it for the Caddy.
It was by far the worst hunk of shit either of us ever owned. She got it new
Carbon build up, wheel bearings, interior pieces, neutural park safety switeches (3), 1 set of glow plugs, 1 set of injectors, 2 glow plug wiring harnesses, one problem with the lights just coming on in the rain. Special oil, weird ass G12 antifreeze and 1 tranny in 80,000 miles.
If that is German engineering they can keep them all. Over at the TDI club people have the same problems all the time.
We mainted it better than any car we ever owned and the service from VW Sucks!!!! I always bought the proper 505.01 synthetic spec oil on line and changed it every 5000 miles. With the carbon build up problem it would see maybe 35 to 38 mpg, when cleaned it out it would get around 48 mpg.

Good kill!!! I kill them whenever I can when in the WS6. I especially like beating on R32s....POOP POOP POOP POOP POOP.
It was pretty funny too, the next few stoplights on that street went red as we both approached them, then when they went green, Mr. Jetta didn't wanna play around anymore after the embarrasment at the first light! Haha!

hmmm, that thinks... I've honestly never really looked at their reliability. My friends 1.8T has been pretty reliable, and I like diesels... Ah well, not like i'd be getting one anytime soon anyway. Thanks for letting me know :)
On a similar note, I've got a friend that's got an '06 Jetta with the 2.5 I-4 and tiptronic auto tranny. We kinda raced from a ~65 MPH roll a while back and I pulled pretty easily on him. He said he was seeing north of 100mph on his speedo, but I kinda doubt that, I think we took it up to around 85-90 maybe, but my speedo is way off at those speeds so I dunno.
Yea, the 2.0 makes a whopping 110hp lol. My brother has a tricked out VR6 Jetta. Pretty damn quick and with exhaust sound really nice, Porsche/bimmer'ish...
I have a buddy that has a 2000 1.8T. He done all kinds of chaos to it. It has all the Audi TT parts, and a big honking Bus sized turbo. On race gas @ 27 PSI, it puts out about 300 Whp.

We raced 60 - 135, and I pulled about 6 cars on him (he was on pump gas at 18ish PSI). Pretty respectible, I must say. (I raced another friend in his stock '05 viper 60-135, and he put 1.5 cars on me, so my car's no slouch). Seeing him run at the track with the race gas was pretty cool. That car really hauled.

Moral of the story, you never know what someone has under the hood.

Oh I know, there's a guy running around here with a 1.8T Jetta that's been pretty heavily modded. The only way I know it's that car is because his grille is different from a stock Jetta grille. This is the same kid who beat my Roadmaster with his AWD TSi by doing a 2500 rpm clutch drop.
