I have been looking into tail light tint for a while now. I have used night shades a few times but I have never been able to get a perfect finish on them. I did my reverse lights and wasn't super happy with the turn out. Anyhow, just wondering if anyone has used a film tint on their lights. I found this company and it seems like a pretty quick and easy system. Here is a link of the install and the link for their site. They are in the UK but I did a pretend order and it was only $30 USD shipped to my door for 2 Black sheets 30cmx50cm. Let me know what you think!

If you couldnt get the finish with vht right, you did it wrong. There are instructional videos all over youtube on how to do it right. I did it and it came out flawless.

Now, that film...... Sucks. Its like a honey comb shape not a solid film. There are comapnies that have tint for tailights in different film colors. Check ebay or even a local tint shop. I like the idea of the tint cause it comes off easy but then again so does vht, if you have the right stuff.

The VHT has a nice finish but I always get at least one fish eye. Also, if there is a defect in the plastic sometimes it can't be seen by eye but it shows up when you paint it. I did see many other regular tints also. I am going to keep looking into it.

You have to prep it right. Sand, sand and more sanding. I hit mine from a 800 to a 2000 grit....

The tint is a good option. Call a tint shop. Or get the tint off ebay and do it yourself, its pretty easy.
I am no stranger to paint at all. I have done some time in a paint shop and I use to paint construction equipment. I did the entire interior of a car (in my ricer days lol) without a single flaw. But dude, that fracking VHT has my number. I have done about 6 sets of lights and never had one turn out well. I have done every kind of prep and sand with no luck. Anyways, I don't want to mess up the caddy. Had one tint shop say they won't do lights...pussies....lol. I will get the tint and do it myself. Cheap and easy to do.

There are a few things you can use but be careful. Gasoline, zylien, acetone or mineral spirits. These may make the lenses look foggy. I'm not sure if it can be buffed out, I've never tried. But those products will remove the vht.

I sanded the vht off my headlights due to visibility problems but all my other lenses have vht + 3 coats or so of clear coat. The clear really sets them off and gives them the glossy look.
