Tail light Error Message

3846 Views 6 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  gschott
My 1987 Allante is giving out a false signal and I don't know why. I'm getting a message saying that my left turn signal and brake light is out. I've checked all the bulbs and everything is working correctly. One strange thing is that when I use the turn signal (right and left) it does not display the direction I'm turning nor make any sound (it use to make an annoying ding).

Check to make sure the bulbs are all the same brand and wattage. There were bulletins in later years advising NOT to use silver base bulbs but only brass and name brand only. Cannt speak to the indicators issue?
the lighting system can predict failure ...
do a google on < cadillac allante xyz facts >
and that should get you the info that references this system.

also, i be replacing every light bulb back there, and be sure that you get the right ones so you wont MELT the tail arrrays. i'll get back later with part number. lastly, make darn sure they are seated PERFECTLY or risk a melt down.

ALSO, make sure all the bulbs have a cooper/brass base and NOT TIN !

lots of also's ?

lol

use 2057 not 1157. BRASS/COOPER base - NOT TIN.

the 1157 will work and fit but they burn too hot and melt the arrays.

apply a dab of dielectric grease before mounting,
make sure they are 100% secured before you close the trunk.

lol
Sometimes you have to replace the sockets to get the computer to "see" the filament. If all else fails, that's the next step.
wouldnt a dip in a metal cleaner do the same?

I've been having the same problem with my '90. After changing several bulbs I noticed that one of the wires going into the socket was loose. If I held it in it worked fine, move it a little and it would quit. I secured the wire and it works fine.
