Well, I know in a previous thread on the T56 rebuild I said I would have some videos posted 'soon' . 'Soon' turned into several months, unfortunately (my life has been pretty chaotic).

So, I'm happy to finally have at least the disassembly video posted. I'll try to get the rebuild and reassembly video(s) assembled soon and get those posted as well.

Hopefully if you're contemplating or planning a transmission rebuild, this video helps you out.

Thanks for doing that! Very helpful!

The driveshaft adapter looked a little stubborn! What was the main reason you rebuilt it? Did you have 5ht or 6th gear vibes???

A little commentary would go a long way.....

There's more commentary in the next video...

I decided to rebuild it since it had 180K miles on it (original clutch too!). It was having some trouble getting in a few gears and I didn't want to just replace the clutch and then have to pull the whole thing apart again to replace the synchros, so I decided to replace the synchros while I had the transmission out of the car. There was a 5-6 vibe, but nothing too bad - I always ascribed it to the tires.

When I pulled it apart, I found the loose 5-6 gear as a surprise. The synchros looked nearly perfect - which was nice considering its mileage - but I replaced them anyways. After seeing the syncros, I decided that all of my shifting trouble was really the clutch master cylinder - which I decided to replace as well. Since the rebuild, the shifting is much better. No trouble getting in and out of gear at all. Unfortunately, it turns out that my new Luk LS7 clutch was out of balance from the box, so I have to pull it out again and get it balanced. I get this very annoying vibration at ~2000 rpm no matter if I'm in gear or not, moving or stopped, clutch in our out - so I'm pretty sure its the flywheel/pressure plate assy.

Those vibes are a pretty common occurrence in LS6 cars at those rpms. Mine has it, not bad but its there, and I've done a balanced clutch/flywheel and an ATI damper.

Thanks again for your efforts.

Man is this awesome. Thanks for doing this. I've wrenched on cars since I was 17, but I've never had the courage to dive into a trans. However, with as thorough as this is, I just might try it! Most videos skip the little things (like showing all the snap rings, etc. For a novice, this is so helpful. Anyway, really cool.
