Hello,
You can run the STS-V sway bar. It is larger in diameter compared to the factory STS sway bar. There is no aftermarket offering available at this time. Let us know if you need help getting that part.
Thank you,

Are there any upgrades available for the swaybar on non-MRC cars?
Is an STSV bar any better?
Other options?

Do you have part numbers for this? I can look it up through GMpartsdirect, or perhaps order through you. Not sure when/if I'll do this, just trying to get an idea of what options exist. I'd love to lower my car, but I don't want it to ride any stiffer, and most/all lowering springs are a higher spring rate. Swaybars tend to be a good option to improve lean without inherantly resulting in a harsher ride.

I dont have the part numbers off hand. I would have to look them up. If you are going to order through GMpartsdirect, be prepared to pay x3 for shipping charges.... The sway bars are a great upgrade if you arent looking to adversley effect the ride quality. You made an excellent point.

Ok, just looking into future upgrades. I think exhaust is next on my list as I'd like to have a little more pleasant noises out of my Northstar. After that probably swaybar or CAI. Not sure which I would do first. Potentially swaybars as the car has adequate power (I don't think any car has "enough"), but would like a little bit more confidence inspiring body motions. No rush but would be interesting to know cost. I have looked stuff up on GMpartsdirect and noticed they had very high shipping charges.

I wish they made an afternarket sway bar for the V's, then they would upgrade and we could pick up their old ones. I did that for my old CTS and it was a nice upgrade for 100 bucks.

GMpartsdirect will run you 124 for the rear V bar and I think 144 for the front. Thats like 270 plus shipping.

It seems like if you really wanted the most bang for the buck, the rear V bar would be the way to go, bumping your 17mm (or 19mm) stock to a 24mm. Thats a significant change if you have a V6 and a pretty decent change with a V8.

The front you're only talking a slight change, plus the V front bar is more expensive than the rear.

From a vehicle dynamics standpoint the front is generally much more critical than the rear. I would expect this is evident in the V8, since a greater % of the weight is up front, the front suspension sees more input here.
Also, if the swaybars aren't properly balanced a heavy rear bar and a light front bar can result in oversteer or a tendency to lift the inside rear tire in cornering.
I've messed around with E-type Jag suspensions (granted that's technology 40 years older than the STS), and "the thing to do" is upgrade the front swaybar significantly and remove the rear altogether, thus allowing the independant rear to do its own thing more, and keep both tires on the ground. I would think the same principle holds true in an STS (or any front engine rear drive).
