Do you think it's possible to replace the "straight gate" Eldorado shifter with the style used on Sevilles?

From what I've seen, the center console appears identical in '96-'97, and the two cars shared the same straight shifter. In '98, the Seville got the gated shifter. However, the Seville also appears to have received a two-piece center console (see pic).

Despite this fact, does anyone know if the dimensions are still the same? Is the bolt pattern beneath the shifter plate the same for either style shifter?

if you did do it, then youd need to swap your ash tray out too, the Seville shifter wood has the ash tray built in.

Yeah, I thought about that. Another worry is the cupholders on the Eldorado... I suppose the Seville cover plate could be cut to accomodate the cupholders, but I don't know if the shifter bezel is far enough forward to make it doable.
