I have a Cadillac Seville 2002 and the engine has a blown head gasket. I found a 2005 cadillac deville and I would like to know if it is possible to just swap the engine on my cadillac? Is 2002 northstar interchangeable with 2005?

They will not interchange. Totally different ignition systems after 2003, for starters - and that's the tip of the iceberg.

You need a VIN Y 2001-2003 engine.

Stud or insert your engine for the greatest peace of mind.

Settle down and study this sticky from Engines; Northstar .......... https://www.cadillacforums.com/foru...s-what-years-interchangeable-differences.html

Have you studied all the stickies in any forums of interest? Timeless info.

They should swap - 2000 - 2003 - VIN 9 for VIN 9, VIN Y for VIN Y. Otherwise you get into cam and calibration problems.

The 8th character of the VIN - 9 or Y - determines whether the car has the 300 hp or the 275 hp powertrain.

Did you study the link in post #2 ?
