I recently purchased a 2009 STS-V. Also, have a 2006 STS that I liked so much I bought the V model. The suspension is very stiff and tough on older roads. so much my wife is complaining about it. My STS rides so much better. Is there any settings that can be changed to soften the ride when I just want to cruise? Like a sport and touring mode?

Rmoon,
Welcome to the V club!!

Do you know if your car is lowered? I bought my car recently and it was lowered, it rode quite stiff. Factory springs in it now and it ride much smoother.
It might be worth checking into, I do not consider the factory ride to be what I would call stiff, but ride quality can be quite subjective. I have not driven a normal sts in quite a while so cannot recall that it rode any softer.

Not to go against anyone, the normal ride height is dopey and an embarrassment and lowering it made it look and handle much better with a minor penalty in ride comfort. And no there is no way to adjust the suspension. By the way I went from an 07 Sts to an 09 v. Similar story.

Hi Rmoon,

I had a 2007 sts v8 1sg with magnetic ride suspension.
My wife enjoyed the ride in that car.
I traded that car for a 2009 sts-v.
On the first ride home, my wife commented on how not-as-smooth a ride this car is as compared to the other car.

Thanks for all the help. I bought the car from a widow so not much information transfer. I did notice the coil springs are red. Would stock springs be painted?
Advertise your D3 springs for sale or for "Factory spring" swap on this forum. I'll GUARANTEE that guys here will trade you straight up! Probably in less than 24 hours...

----------

When I changed from stock to D3 springs, the ride quality degraded little compared to the increase in performance and looks. Even though the D3 springs are 20-30% stiffer than factory, they are indeed progressive to allow retention of the majority of ride quality, unlike the linear spring rate of the stockers.

----------

And keep in mind that the stock V springs and anti-roll bar are 10-15% stiffer than the regular STS suspension setup, so the ride will never be as "nice" (Aka 70's magic carpet). you can, however, actually attack a turn without feeling like you're heeling the HMS Titanic with the V, though...

Bidding will start @ $$$........
:p

I know many say there is not much difference but having just swapped the ride IS noticeably stiffer with the D3 springs.
It also was bottoming on the bumpstops over every speed bump or dip in the road regardless of how mellow I went over them with the D3, could not park in any parking spot with a curb stopper etc. That probably contributed to the harder ride feel.
The car does look wicked with them installed though! It did handle well, though the low mileage stock springs cornered just as flat for me with the driving I do out here.

Thanks all for your helpful comments. This is really adding things up for me. I am very confident the springs have been changed out. The car needed a wheel alignment as it was wearing the front tires horribly. shop had to get a camber kit to get the right adjustment which implies a lower stance. I will keep these for now and maybe look for a stock set that someone is willing to let go of to try.

How does the powdercoat hold up on those as they flex?! They don't chip?

----------

And the bidding war begins...ChurchStsv is going to be pissed, bc I bet d3 hasn't even shipped the new ones he ordered yet.

Come to think of it, IM PISSED that 2 guys with D3 springs weren't up for a swap when I bought mine new for $475!
