Says over at GM Authority surround vision recording is coming to all 2023 escalades. Sounds like there's a hardware component because it records to an SD card? Does anyone know anything more about the system? Any ideas if it can be retrofit to 21/22 models. It would be very useful.

So you’d have to update hardware and software. Not a likely OEM retrofit when it comes to both. Anxious to see more on this.

I hope it's activated automatically. I had an OEM dash cam in my S-Class. But i had to turn it on every time. I missed a lot of good footage in my S-class cuz I always forgot to turn it on.

2023 Escalade including the V have RPO XVR in the order guide.

Here is what it is on other Cadillacs having RPO XVR

If equipped, this system records the 360° camera views to an SD card. Only images are recorded, no sound. An SD card will be needed for this system. The recommended SD card is a 32GB SDHC card with FAT32 file system, Class 10 and over.

To Activate : Touch Video Recorder on the Home Page. Touch the red dot. The red dot will illuminate when the video recorder is on. It will remain on until it has been turned off. Recording will start after exiting the playback screen. Advise other drivers and occupants of the vehicle that video images are being recorded.
To Deactivate : Touch Video Recorder on the Home Page. Touch the red dot. Select from the following when the vehicle is in P (Park).
Exit : Touch X to exit this application and return to the previous app.
Video List : Touch to display a list of the most recent and saved videos. Touch the delete button next to the name to delete a saved video.
Rewind : Touch to rewind the video. Touch again to increase speed. Continue touching to stop rewinding.
Play/Pause : Touch to play or pause a recorded video.
Fast Forward : Touch to fast forward the video. Touch again to increase speed. Continue touching to stop fast forward.
Save : Touch to save a video. This protects the video from being erased. Once the SD card is full, the oldest files will be overwritten unless they have been saved.
Camera Views : When opening the Video Recorder, the previous file will show all camera views and can be played. Icons in the upper right corner of each view indicate which camera. Touch one of the views to zoom to only that camera view. Touch again to return to all camera views. Press X at any time to exit the video recorder app. The latest recorded video file can be played. In addition: . The recorded video is stored in five-minute-long files. . All files can be viewed on the playback app or when the SD card is read by a personal computer (PC). . Once the SD card is full, the oldest files will be overwritten. Saved files will not be overwritten.
To Delete Data : Remove the SD card from the vehicle and insert into a PC to manually delete the file.

Thanks. Very useful. There's no SD card slot in the vehicle though other than the one occupied by the maps, right? That's why I think it may have a hardware requirement. Unless there's a second one that I'm not aware of or it somehow is utilizing this one.

The SD card for this SVR has it's own card and slot, if equipped. It has been known to be in the trunk, glove box, under the center console in other vehicles. Not sure where they will place it in the Escalade.

The one SD card for the maps you speak of in the center console is for the navigation.

To your question on a retrofit to previous years like the 21 or 22 I would say no. Items such as UV2 HD camera, MCR SD card reader, harness's, connections, programming etc would be needed.

It’s something similar to what’s in the corvette. The SD slot is in the glove box. You have to set it to record over also. But i have it set to record every time i get into it. You never know what’s going to happen and when. It’s best to be always prepared. Glad the new Escalade will have it!

But an SD card is portable. How do you get the BMW video on to your home computer if it is on a hard drive that’s in the car?

I can’t see them using old tech in them after they spent so much updating everything inside. And even if they do the recorders for the corvette have been in them since the C7 and they all came with a SD chip.

From the manual:
Automotive design Vehicle Personal luxury car Family car Car

The minimum recommended SD card specifications are at least 64GB, with an exFAT file system, and a video class of V30 or greater.

Oh, and in general ... don't buy cheap memory cards you find on Amazon, or whatever Internet site you find 'the best deal' on. You might luck out and get something of decent quality, but chances are you will end up with substandard quality and reduced longevity. It never ceases to amaze me that people buy cheap stuff and are shocked when they get cheap stuff. :)

Hi all. My 23 Sport is having an issue where the SD card is not recognized. Took it to the dealer yesterday, techs had no idea what to do. Sales guy said he had another owner come in the previous day with the same issue, so he's got a call in to the factory rep to see if the newest units were shipped without a specific chip to enable the card reader to work.

The manual specs an SD card with a minimum 64GB size, V30, formatted as exFAT as mentioned above, but SD cards of 64, 128, 256, and 512 (yes, I bought and tried them all, and they are all of the highest quality) will not work. Reformatted them just to be certain as well.

There's a problem with them that needs to be figured out and corrected.

Thank you for the update. I guess there's no need for me to attempt to reformat.

I was able to figure out the "SD card is not recognized" issue:

1st: Per manual, It is recommended to use at least 64GB SD card size, V30. However, I cannot get it to work on exFAT format. I had to reformat the SD card to FAT32. This is the format used by other Cadillac models with surround vision recording.
2nd: You will need a 3rd party utility (e.g. Ridgecrop) to be able to format 64GB SD card to FAT32 if you are using Windows OS.

Hope it helps.

I have a 256gb. Formatted it to fat32 just now. Still doesn't work.
