Surround video SD card

For those of you who need to buy the SD Card for your 360 Video. The only one that works is 32GB. The paper that comes with the owner's manual says "at least 64GB". I tried a 128GB and it is the wrong format. BestBuy checked online with its sources and gave me a 32GB. It worked fine. It's a shame Cadillac would torture us for a chip that cost me $15.52 out the door! Two trips to BestBuy and a lot of grief! Hope this helps somebody.

Thanks. This is well-known but not by everybody.

This is because the SD card only works for the surround video if the card is formatted to the FAT32 standard. Unfortunately, FAT32 is (normally) limited to memory devices up to 32GB. Beyond that, Windows will use the exFAT standard.

For cars equipped with the performance data recorder (mine has this), those operate just fine with larger cards formatted to exFAT.

I have a 2023 CT5-V. I grabbed the card I used in my 2018 CT6 from the trunk area for the Surround Video Recorder. I plugged it into my CT5-V and it was not recognized. I was totally surprised. One day I was sitting in a parking lot and wondering about this thing called Performance Data Recorder. It stated that there was no SD Card present. I thought, I wondered about the card in the trunk. I pulled it out and inserted it in the Dash receptacle for the PDR. And again surprised. It worked. I wish I could remember how This SD card was formatted. I am pretty sure it is 64 GB. Why does it work in one SD slot but not the other? Yeah, I know, A thousand reasons why and a thousand reasons why not.

The surround recorder needs to be formatted to FAT32 - which is limited (normally) to a 32GB card. The resolution is not great so 32GB should be acceptable there. The PDR, on the other hand, is far higher resolution and is not restricted to FAT32 - which is why your 64GB card will work there.

To be clear....

I need two SDs? Im mostly interested in playing with the performance features...but there is another for dash cam and surround. Does the car format the cards? Not a cpu guy. Never heard of FAT 32 and dont much care to learn.

My car is in my sig. If anybody wants to tell me what i need and throw a link to the best available, I'd appreciate it.

TY

If you have the PDR option, get a 64GB high endurance SD card and put it in the slot to the left of the steering wheel. If you want to use the surround view recording function, get a 32GB high endurance card (they come formatted to FAT32) and put it in the slot in the trunk.

In the menu, you can select to have the PDR come on every time you start the car - and it behaves much as a forward-facing dashcam. Honestly, you don't need a high capacity card there as it just keeps recording over itself - if you really want to view something, just pop out the card and read it from your computer (you'll need a USB SD card adapter).

I have a 2023 CT5 550T and I have been having trouble with the surround video recorder. I bought the correct sd card and formatted it. I still kept getting the message “No card detected” I tried a 64gb and an 32gb….Nothing! I called the dealer and he walked me thru the steps, of which I did properly. Next step was to bring the car back to the service department. I went out to my car and decided to try each of the SD cards again! I put in the 32gab SD card one more time and I shut my trunk, got in the car and Ta-Da, it’s working. I had inserted the card several different times and around the tenth time it worked! So happy.

I've used Rufus in Windows to format large flash drives to FAT32. It's a well-known veteran tool in the Windows community for any number of flash-drive creation challenges.

Just make sure you carefully select your flash drive (versus your hard drive) as the desired device, set the "boot selection" to non-bootable, set the "file system" to FAT32, and ignore the other options.
