OK, the cover or top of the supercharger on my car is clearly different than the others I have seen or in pictures posted online. See pic. Was this a running change? Anybody else have this same cover? Or am I missing something? The part number on the label on the passenger side says part #12631035 with a date stamp of 2/2/09. That label also says made in Germany, but I thought Eaton made the blowers in the US? Maybe the cover is from Germany??

To be clear, you are at least missing the black plastic cover that normally hides all of the engine bits.

Or are you aware of that but asking about the metal bits specifically?

Your metal top definitely is different than the one in my car, an October 2008-built car.

Yes I have removed both the front and rear black plastic vanity covers. I am talking about the metal top of the supercharger. On mine you can see it is flat and smooth, with a rectangular shiny metal plate near the back, all others I have seen have the embedded ridges cast into the metal cover. I assume this was just a running change in the cover design, but I find it a bit odd.

wait4me said the plate was a way to tell if the engine was overboosted. If it was overboosted that plate would bend out of shape. If you dont have the metal plate and just the grooves than i'm guessing you're pretty lucky

I'm confused. For pics of others NOT like mine there is no shiny metal plate on the top of the supercharger and there is no place for one to be put on. Mine has a different design, without the embedded ridges, and WITH the shiny rectangular metal plate affixed into a recessed area with 5 screws. I have not taken that metal plate off to see what is under it, but it seems odd that they would make a cover design change and affix a metal plate with 5 screws in an area that previously was just the top of the supercharger.

Can anybody confirm the part number on the label on the supercharger cover? The part number on mine 12631035, cross-ref'd at gmpartdirect.com shows description: COVER but a list price of $1550! More than just a vanity cover.

I just pulled the plastic covers off of mine, and the label of my passenger side has the part number 12604851. It also says it is made in Germany.

Interesting, 12604851 does not come up at gmpartsdirect.com. Wonder when they made the part change, and why? It seems more than cosmetic given the odd rectangular panel that seems to have been designed for some purpose. My car was built 4/17/09, I wonder if all of them now have this cover.

Interesting. I want to pull that metal cover off, but I am worried there is some giant spring and about 50 pieces that will spring out from underneath if I take it off! That and one of the darn screws is directly under the strut tower brace and damn hard to get to. Anybody removed theirs? Still seems odd to me, and I am curious what this thing is really designed to do, why did they make the change.

Maybe it was a panel to clean the top of the intercooler core. I havent gotten that new style here to tear into it and find out. In that spot is purely just a intercooler core. No springs, no suprises. All the seals are reusable so if someone took it apart, it wouldnt hurt anything..

As for the dampner isolator, that is in the FRONT of the blower assembly in between the snout and main unit.

According to the Service Manual with an information cutoff date of 02/09/09, it is called an 'isolator pad'. The drawings seem to show it just bolting right over top of the ribbed section that is scene on the earlier units. There doesn't appear to be any other opening under this pad.

Is it possible that the intercooler underneath the plate is softer/thinner. That way if there is overboost than if the dealer pulls the plate off they will see telltale signs of warpage. Think of the plate screwed on the intercooler just as a "cover" for the "overboost checking area"

My CTS-V looks like the picture that was provided by 62Jeff. It was obtained by me on Jan. 2. It was supposedly delivered to the dealer on Dec. 26. I suppose it was made sometime in Dec. 2008.

If you are really curious, there's a sticker in the driver's side door jamb, on the body, near the door sill plate that indicates the date of manufacture. On my Silver car, the sticker is silver with black writing making it a bit unobvious.

62Jeff,
My car is black with the same silver label with black writing, and it confirms a manufacturing date of Dec. 2008. I guess I guessed correctly.

Mine also has the non-slotted plate, and was manufactured 3/09 also. Must be a running change.
