This happens to me too. I tried adding some lithium grease to the track, but it didn't help. What works for me 100% of the time is holding the sunroof close button at the first detent (so, not fully pushing it down yet) until the wind net screen pushes down, then I can fully press the button so that it auto closes the rest of the way. I have a similar issue if I pop the sunroof up and then try to auto close it. The sunroof actually hits the roof of the car and then pops back up again. If I lightly press the sunroof slide button, it ignores the resistance and actually closes down. Quirky, but usable, I guess.
