I am a garage owner, master mechanic, and previus owner of jaguars, mercedes and bmw.
I purchased a new 05 STS Feb/05 now have 15K on it change the oil once that's it.
There is no BETTER CAR for the money and value you get from the STS.
Lookind trough this forum I noticed a few negative repplies, hey that's it the way it goes, sometimes you get some minor problems with any new automobile that includes cars that cost twice as much as the STS.
I am fixing and working trough my garage in all of them.
You have to spent more money to buy less of a car to those of you that you believe any European car is better than a Cadillac STS.
Cadillac STS it is truly a world class automobile.
By the way this is not a commercial.

I agree that it is one of the best looking cars, I have owned. But far from the best operational that I have ever owned. 7 GM cars in the last 5 years, not a single problem, 1 Cadillac and bam all the good luck caught up to me.
Currently working through a buy back.

I do really enjoy the rent car STS's. I get to drive a different color one ever couple weeks. LOL

Just a brief note of clarification that although there are more than a "few" negative replies on the boards this is exactly where they should be. And faulty suspensions & inop major features qualify a little higher than "minor". It doesn't mean that these folks "hate" their cars but rather that this is the community in which to share to:

A) validate whether your concern is a one off or part of a global problem.

B) seek advice and counsel from those with better/longer/different experiences.

C) Vent frustrations - Sympathy is embarrassing. The spouse, best friend or owner of a BMW/MB/Lex etc. etc. etc. is not goinmg to give you what you really want which is empathy. That only comes from your fellow Caddy owner/lovers.

The bluetooth thread(s) are a perfect example of this. Where else can you find great opinions on which handsets have worked and which have not? Yes there are some rants but for the price people pay they are allowed to blow off some steam every once in a while...:banghead:

I know I am one of the most vocal about certain concerns but have also shared on how much I LOVE my car and miss the darn thing when I can't drive it. It is totally with respect and a strong desire to improve the situation for those who may need it.

It's not like we complain about every little thing (like the fact that while my car was in for three days last week having three seperate audio/nav systems installed that they were also doing a replacement of the passenger window "$520.00 - list!" because the window tinter etched it!). Alright maybe we do complain about everylittle thing... And no I didn't pay list nor for the replacement at all - but someone did pay partial dealer cost on it...

Regardless, this is the best place for all comments and the great news is to hear of another caddy lover out there with experience and skills in taking care of their new beast. And i'm with you. This is the BEST vehicle feature/performance wise for the price bar none. I know many don't care on their return on asset value's and setting depreciation aside as well but up front costs set you up for a bargain compared to others...

Thanks for the comments and I know I'll look forward to your future posts on all things Caddy.

Not that I was taking your post personally or anything...:lildevil:

Cheers!

High technology cars run a much higher chance of failure than the more bare bones models. Every car manufacturer that I can think of has its hands full dealing with these techno glitches.
Even TOYOTA of all companies is choking in the consumer reports with its new Avalon. The car has features like adaptive cruise and bluetooth that are interfering with basic functions like starting the engine and putting the car into drive.
Cadillac is routinely coming in second and third place in reliability next Toyota or Buick. Mercedes is usually on the bottom end of the scale. BMW seems to usually be with Cadillac, plus or minus a few.

Interesting. You can use this to compare Audi, BMW, MB and Cadillac. The CTS actually does better than the STS. Probably some first year gremlins on the STS that have been sorted out alread on the CTS.

Don't forget the sample size as well. STS was a first year vehicle with small production numbers.

For MB and BMW for example they use the entire "class" as the sample group which can really skew the numbers. Great for overall ratings but not specific to comparably equipped "heads up" comparisons.

But definetely an indicator none the less

Actually I used this site as model specific not entire line. I compared the A6, STS, CTS, BMW 5 and MB E class. Very interesting.

Lets not forget that for every 1 probelm car mentioned in this thread, there are 20 that are problem free. Its the nature of this forum to discuss problems, because non problems don't require resolution.

It is refreshing to occassionaly read about the owner who has had not one problem...

Personally I am very satisfied with the build quality and operation of mine.

I agree. I have had my '05 STS-4 for almost a year and 21,000 miles. It is the most enjoyable car I have ever owned and it has been near perfect

I do however disagree with many people stating that the Cadillac's are a "bargin" compared with other luxury makes. This is just not true. My STS had a sticker of $63,000 and I paid $61,000. That is more money then the Infinity or the Lexus and is right in the same range as the loaded BMW 5 & M-B E class.

That said, the Cadillac is worth every penny. It is a world class car.

Certainly there are variables all the way around. I know in my case the sticker on my 1Sg ACC was $63,195.00. I paid $55,000 flat under the GM "Employee" marketing promo and a little more off ($497.00) from negotiating to get to the round figure.

The 545i with the same features was $15k more... E500 23K more. Those were my negotiated prices.

The major difference is in pricing the add-ons to match the features. If you don't then the base price can look comparable.

And of course this is only for vehicles that I matched feature to feature. The base models were not the basis for most of the previous discussions as I recall...

So at least in my case the STS was a true bargain and I had written quotes from all three companies to keep me smiling...:)

Of course that's the great thing about these boards. Various opinions and experiences with the ability to help others out!

Boy did I feel "ripped off" by that employee discount ! I am glad for you and others but. The one leason I learned in buying the STS right away is that one will pay top dollar. As I did...
