I have a 1996 sedan deville my rear strut on one side has a leak so i need them both replaced and i figured i should do the front as well . I do want the oem replacements for the ride stabilaty and so on. Is this a good idea or are the aftermarket replacements just as good ? i dont mind spending the money becuase the oem a gonna last for a good 8 to 10 yrs. correct? And last off what do i need to order to replace the rear like strut assembly ,mount, bushings, ect.? And the same for the front ? Any help would be greatly appreciated .thanks.

Go to your dealer's parts department tell them what it is you need and have them give you a price quote with part numbers. Take those part numbers home to your computer and go to www.gmpartsdirect.com and enter the part numbers and see the price you can get it from them. Usually about half the price of the dealer. An example, I had driver front wheel bearing going bad on my '97, since it's a sealed bearing you have to order complete front hub. Got part number and price from dealer, they wanted $400. I got the part from gmpartsdirect for $180 plus shipping.

If you email GMpartsdirect, or go to www.gmotors.com, and describe the parts, they will give you a quote without having to go to the dealer for the numbers.

On a 96 being almost 10 yrs old. I would replace the strut mounts also. Being as they are not that much and take close to nothing to drop and and back in. More so needed if the struts are bad and you have air ride. The strut mounts take loads of abuse from daily driving.
And I have found that Aftermarket is just OEM w/out the name. Like Monro or Gabriel. Most of these places make the parts for GM or other makes and then put their name on them. Example E33525 for GM is made by Monro but has the GM name on it. Monro part number is ES33525 (just does not have the S for the GM part S for the Monro name on it)

I'm sure a lot of ac delco fanatics would not like to read this post above I've always said this but most people really truely think that ac delco parts are made with super advanced materials which somehow are justified with paying double or triple the price.
