A 2005 and up (CTS-V and CTS Sport) bar is taller and will physically bolt on and clear the motor, but you won't be able to close the hood without cutting a slot in it. PJ did this to his, and it seemed to work. I've still got mine in the garage, waiting for me to cut the cross bar, and weld a new one that's about 1" lower.
The 04 CTS-V cross bar won't even clear the V6 motors, since we have overhead cams that make it taller overall, than the V8.
In mid '05 GM started molding in a slot to the underside of the hood (and the hood liner) to clear this, even if it wasn't ordered. You could upgrade to a newer hood, but this would be a very expensive way to fit a strut tie-brace.
Any STB off an 06 or newer CTS will work. Either a V or sport packageWhere do they sell the STB for a late 04 V6? I knew that Dub could get them but havent looked into it for awhile
Can I find the part number in the FAQ for the 06 CTS one? DOes the bar go over the cover, or does it have to come off?
Yeah I have that same hood. Let me know what the part number is when it comes in if you couldI bought the CTS Sport one off a forum member last week. It is coming here today!

My CTS has an indent in the hood liner for the brace. It's the exact same hoodliner as the V's... I'm hoping that means it will work.
If there's a part number on it I'll let you know...Yeah I have that same hood. Let me know what the part number is when it comes in if you could
It looks a'ight, here's a pic.
It sits across the rear of the engine bay, but stiffens up the front end really well.
