Changed to a B&M shifter and stripped the knob. Called the dealer and they want $192 plus tax for the knob and the boot!:banghead: I don't want to permanately mount it to the shifter to fix the problem. Does anyone have a stock black shifter in good condition they are willing to sell. Thanks.

DD,

Did you strip the knob or the shifter handle itself? The knob can be had at GMPD, or call Van Devere Caddy in Akron and Dal will help you out. I had the Katech shifter w/stock knob and I spun the knob too tight and it stripped out the plastic sleeve inside of the knob, so I had to order a new boot/knob combo. See the faq for pn

I don't know if this is the same issue I had with my stock knob but:

After my car was at the dealer for a re-program temp guage my shifter knob would spin in my hand. What I did was take an small nail, heat it and push it thru the plastic (back of knob on dash side). Then I grabbed a 8/32 tap and tapped threads into it. Then I used a 1/2" X 8/32 Hex Skrew to tighten it up. You could use two if you want. It tightened it up good as new, probably better.

Might save you a couple of bucks/easy fix.

I thought of doing that too. But in the end, the knob was on a Katech shifter (which was threaded) and I was changing back to the UUC (which is click-fit), So I tossed the whole shifter assy with knob and I havent looked back.
