I have a 1998 cadillac seville sts and I would like to install a
bose navigation unit from a 2003 cadillac seville sts.

Do you know where I can find a step by step installation help.
Or does a official installation document exist? (from bose, Cadillac/GM)

I'm so thankful for any information

Wich unit are you looking for? The older one with the smaller screen (cd) or the newer one with the bigger screen (dvd)?

I bought the newer one on ebay for 300 USD including shipping.
(But waited for over 6 months for a offer like this)

Now I have to install it and I'm not shure if it is plug&play or if I'll
need to modify something. Becasue the 1998 seville sts was only available with the older unit.

its not plug and play
i could do a write up if i had the unit and to date i have not found one at a decent price without some sniper taking it from me with 2 seconds left

this is on the DVD based nav btw the cdrom based required several pieces and its own special harness making this one impossible to install on a non factory optioned car....

So you mean the CD based one is impossible to install - right?

I have the DVD based. There is a thread about how to put a 2002 nav into a 1998 seville and it seems to work, doesn't it?

I think I got the same one like he got. I got this, it is also from a 2002 sts:

it will work with LIMITED functionality and will short out your BCM after awhile
the original installed documented this and everyone seems to ignored this
more repining needs to be done, more than whats in the original "instructions"
leaving one crucial wire continues to short out the elimination fuse which lights up the HU, A/C controls and wheel controls
constant replacement of this fuse eventually leads to frying the BCM and other components...

yea i know of those instructions quite well
and they are half assed enough to get it to work but not complete
just a warning, i contacted J the installer and he told me that theres more repining than that and he blew up his BCM messing around with the wires as they were.
i will NOT release what exactly he has said seeing as he told me not to and because i havent verified what he told me with a unit to test on because i will NOT be responsible for telling people the wrong thing and destroying their cars...

Okay - thanks for the warning.

But can there be a compromise?
If I would leave out some features for taking a smaler risk.
What is the most susceptible part by installing the nav?
(Which elements can be destroyed)

I mean you wrote that you are also trying to buy one on ebay-
that shows that you consider the mounting possible. right?

yuh
but theres a few different major factors
one my Seville is an 03 STS which had the nav as an option, 98-01 didnt and has SLIGHTLY different wiring (like no VSS wire at the harness, my cars radio does)
not worrying about connecting the voice command features would prob be a good idea...

Okay - I'll act on your advice!
I realy just want my nav to navigate. I don't realy need the other functions like voice commands. I think just to bring the navigation to work should be doable, right?

Is this a problem that I do not have a VSS wire at the harness?
How can I solve this problem?

I'm realy thankful!

The F2/F4 wire is the VSS and is found in 2002 and newer cars.
But what is with my car (98 seville sts)
Do I have to splice into another system to get this feed?

I realy want to take your advices serious, so what did you mean by saying:

"...there is NOTHING to move in pin locations F2 or F4, so this is not just a simple repin as i have been stating since day one"

Did I get you right:
The problem is to move the wire from F2 to F4 because there is no wire in F2.

Hey thanks again for the helpful diagrams! Thats support!

I have another question (not shure if this is stupid question)

If I had bought my nav on ebay I'll have to reprogramm it by a
cadillac dealer, right? Do I have to do that before installing or
can that also be done after I have installed the unit??...

Today I have finally built in my 2002 navigation in my 1998 seville sts and
now I need the dealer to program my vin.

BTW will my 6x cd changer in the center console continue reading discs with the 2002 navigation unit?

Since I have instaled the 2002 nav unit my car battery is discharged almost
everyday. I did the repining exactly as per description and everything
seems to work fine but something is constant consumes electricity.

Can it be that this is because I still have the old cd changer installed?

I heard that the older cd changer models don't work with the 2002 unit. The newer cd changer (2002 and up) uses a serial bus.

.....what do you think?
