My 96 FWB just developed a groan when I turn the wheel just off-center. It's more pronounced turning right than left. It only happens when I initially start turning. What could be causing this? Im in the process of getting new suspension parts because I know I have to replace the front & rear suspensions in the next few months. Any help is appreciated.

My 92 does the same thing (only it's when it's turned slightly left). I showed it to a GM mechanic friend who has several of these cars and his opinion was that it was a slight power steering feedback through the steering wheel from an aging system and nothing to be concerned with. That was a year ago and the groan hasn't gotten any worse (the car's a daily driver).
