Is there a steering rack recall on our CTS? I know there is one for the ATS. I remember I had a recall done on the steering but I thought there were 2 of them when talking here. I only ask because on the ATS side someone had their bolts brake that held the steering rack on. And at this point I have a creaking noise when I turn up front. I have never had that is this car before. I had an MRC shock replaced and since then I have had the creaking noise upfront when hard turning.

There was a recall for the bolts for the steering that could break. Mine were replaced a couple years ago. Nothing wrong with the steering rack itself, just the bolts. Here is a link to enter your VIN to check for any recalls of your vehicle that have not been performed yet or check with you Cadillac service rep.

Thanks Martin. I could be dumb and that was already done. I'll look under my hood for the sticker they put when they do a recall.

Don't believe there was a recall on the 2014 MY
Thanks. I'll research this. My car is doing some funny things like a high freq vibration through the car at idle. I feel it in my steering wheel.. That combined with the creaking noise when turning is bothering the hell out of me. I picked up a slight wobble in the front end after replacing a cracked wheel. That wasn't there even after cracking the wheel and driving on it. Soon as the new wheels went on I got a wobble. I have had them looked at and they are straight and true.

My car did this. It was pronounced when I would back out of a driveway with the wheels turned all the way in one direction (don't remember which direction) or just backing out of the driveway. Turned out to be the lower control arms. The dealer replace both sides and creaking noise disappeared.

Had the bolts placed under the bulletin (GM doesn’t want to term it as a recall) on my 14. After a while the car developed an annoying grind/creek noise when turning full lock - left, at low parking lot speeds. I could also duplicate the sound while the car was stationery. Ironically it was more audible inside the car as opposed to outside of the car. Long story short, the dealer tried lubing the bolts to no avail. Took the car to another dealer and they put a stethoscope on the rack and heard the noise. They ended up replacing the rack under my extended warranty, car had only 35k on the odometer, B2B warranty had lapsed due to time. Hopefully my 18 will not exhibit these issues. Fingers crossed ?

Just so we're clear, the bolts were for the PS steering box I thought. I had some bottoming and slamming noises so went in. The first tech blew it off, so I took a tech with me FOR A RIDE and he heard it. He was good and tore everything apart (4 days) until he found it. It was the "Intermediate Steering Shaft", so he replaced it. It was causing binding at a U-Joint, and even made my front shocks (yes, I know they are struts) feel worn. Now, it feels normal/good again. However…………., they falsified my new work orders to look like the first tech found it, and they had my car for 15 DAYS!, as opposed to 1 day then 4 days, with 10 days off in between. I am in the middle of a massive complaint against my dealer since my UBER camera coincidentally recorded the first tech's LACK of care in not diagnosing it the first time in (amongst other failures).

Yup. Sounds like mine . Creaking sound at full lock low speeds. When I put it in gear and backup it does it as well.

Is the technical name "Steering Rack", or something different like mine; "Intermediate Steering Shaft"?

I think I had my steering shaft done on a recall. I cant remember what it was but it was steering involved. It's funny because it started a couple months after that. This is why I hate bringing my car in for service. You never know what is going g to go wrong after or what wasnt done properly. That and small dents and grease hand prints on my headliner like last time. I mean how and why are your hands on my headliner when you were supposed to be under the hood. Must have been a good ride to lunch. Another time a tech took my car home so he could listen for the sbut down him. That was fine but tell me first not after the fact and he pulls in with it at 8am half sleep. You would be surprised on what people do with your car when your not there.

Yes there is another new steering recall for the CTS. I received the notice a while back, but last I checked it wasn't ready to be applied/installed yet. I might be for newer models only f you earlier V sport guy didn't receive a notice. Not sure what the recall involves if there is any hardware change or if its just software.

Thanks I thought there were 2 of them. There is something going on with mine for sure. Knowing my luck my 14 isn't included.

After driving mine with the steering shaft replaced, I still had a clunking noise, and that "creaking" with the brakes applied, and possibly turning also. I will check things out this weekend when I put on some cleaner front pads. The tech even told me that there was a new noise that they can't get rid of! I will try a different dealer and see what they think.

Yesterday, I found out what the noise was; front anti-sway bar end links. I replaced the driver's side with a Moog (18.00 from Rock Auto), and no more noise. I can't believe that the dealer had my car 5 days, and never figured it out. When I got an alignment, the guy said these were bad right away after listening to them. While getting it off, I actually pulled the ball socket from the body of the link!!!!!!!!!

Creaks, for sure, along with a "clank" on the rebound after hitting a decent size pothole or bump. It's definitely louder then the soft "thud" from the tire hitting it. I'll know a lot more after Ubering this weekend. I know exactly what streets caused the noises.
