Bought a 2015i Premium and loved the car until last month. When we get in to drive it and turn the steering wheel we get a "rubbing or grinding" noise. Lately, it has been happening while we drive. Also, going into a turn we get the feeling that we are losing the power steering and the wheel fights against the turn! This freaks us out and we were wondering if anyone else was having the same issues. Dealer says it is part of the Drivers Assist package but I do not want ANY car fighting me when I am trying to turn! The rubbing-grinding noise comes and goes...

Anyone with these issues and any fixes recommended?

Thanks!

Make an appointment with your service advisor and get the truck looked at a.s.a.p.

Thanks for the responses! We are on our 7th Cadillac in the last 10 years and the dealer has been very good for a very long time. This issue, as of today, has been escalated up as it "seems" to be connected to the Lane Change Alert system that now inlcudes the "nudging" of the car back into the lane. Ours actually happens when it is in a turn and there are no lanes involved. Just fyi for all that have the "nudging" part of the system(2015i). Even with the system off the nudging becomes an actual grinding grip that can freak one out when driving. Cadillac says that introducing the nudging part of the system is a prelude to the driverless car systems and enhanced cruise control that is just around the corner. Not a bad way to introduce a "trust me" mode in a car but ours is actually inducing a lack of trust! We also have an ELR and the system on that car does not have the "nudging" part of the system...it only comes with the updated 2015 Escalade and the newer cars just introduced by Cadillac.

I will update as we move forward.

I thought there is no nudging of the escakade with lane tracking. It is just a seat vibration. The only vehicle with nudging to keep it straight is the MB S-class coupled with slowing down. Not on the escalade though.

It sure looks like you all are right and the car, and its issues, are not being caused by an LKA. Latest news is that it is a faulty steering column install. Will update.

CCC,

Thanks for the contact. My dealer has always been amazing at both sales and service so I usually concentrate on letting them move through their process prior to going to someone above(?) them. Since the dealer did not actually manufacture the car I always allow them the opportunity to fix what the manufacturing process may have created. If the issue cannot be fixed to my acceptance than I will be the first to move from the dealer to the division. With the MSRP's of these cars I expect the division to not only stand behind the repairs done by their franchised dealers but also be the first to make sure that the customer is happy with the repair and not just that the fix is "just okay". The division is always the ultimate party that should be accountable since they built the car. My issue does seem to be due from an incorrect building process versus a user-mistake or a dealer issue....so I will keep the division in mind as we move forward with the repair.

We had a new loaner Cadillac XT5 which is equipped Lane Keep Assist. It was VERY cool, and I could drive at least 1 mile with no hands on the wheel as test. It kept nudging back to the middle of the lane. Don't worry, I picked a safe place to test this feature. And, if your hands are off the wheel for more than a little while, the car bongs and bings to let you know.

From the XT5 site
"Helping you stay on the straight and narrow. Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning monitors the lines on the road senses the lane boundaries and helps keep your vehicle centered, as well as alerting you of an inadvertent lane departure. If you begin to drift into another lane without using your turn signal, the system, in conjunction with the Safety Alert Seat, sends a warning pulse through the seat cushion."
