I have posted before on this issue but could not find it in search. It has to do with our 14 CTS AWD having a HORRENDOUS brake squealing when initially beginning to drive. It is bad enough that neighbors have mentioned it [you need to get brakes replaced] and the police even mentioned it to my wife recently. The only suggestion I remembering receiving earlier was to drag the brakes when first starting out. Since it has been a while has anyone that has this issue found a solution other than dragging the brakes initially?

Hello,

there red have been previous threads on this topic. This is a known problem with recent Cadillacs. I experience this problem each winter on my 14 XTS and 16 CTS. Cadillac has a published service bulletin for it. To eliminate the noise, there’s some type of special grease that is applied to the back of the front disc pads. This prevents the metal to metal contact between the pad and the caliper. That is the source that of the high pitched squeal.

Check out EBC Brakes. Many of their performance pads come with a set of thin rubberized high-heat insulators that stick to the pad backing to prevent squeaking/whining.

I run EBC slotted rotors and Redstuff pads with the backing applied and, like KRD, they're dead quiet and smooth (after break-in).

The only info I could find related to a service bulletin was a GM one about customers complaining about squeaky brakes. Their answer was to explain to customer that this was a "normal operating characteristic of this vehicle. It will not impact the designed performance or reliability of the vehicle". Thanks Cadillac. :(
