So I've had my cts on the road for about a week now and I freakin love it. The only problem I can find with the car is the sport button doesnt work. When I test drove other cts's an S symbol lit up when I turned it on. No light comes on the dash when I push it. Any ideas why?

Can you tell if the car is going into sport mode or not?
check the fuze...
I just checked almost all my fuses and couldnt find any bad ones. I didnt see a fuse labeled "sport" in the diagram. Do you know which one it would be?

Something is wrong with the function then. If it activates, it will obviously light up the indicator on your dash. There is a chance the indicator light is bad, however if you're not noticing any change in RPM's or performance then it's not the light, it's the system. I'm sure someone on here knows more than me and can explain it better.
Simple test to see if it is in Sport mode ... from a dead stop ... floor it! First shift should be just shy of 7k in Sport mode. Less than that and it is not in Sport mode. Doubt it is a problem with the indicator light ... I designed the PCB for that cluster ... it's an LED and changes it went bad are next to nil. My bet is something is wrong with TC or Stability preventing it from being turned on. Pop a Tech2 on it and see what codes are thrown (or have the dealer scan the codes).

my 05 in sport mode or not when you floor it, it supposed to shift at the same point. sport mode is just to hold the gear longer when you release the gas pedal so it wont upshift to help gain back power when you accelerate again thats it.
You know the more I think of it im not sure if its in sport mode sometimes. I dont have much to compare it to. The car is still new to me and I'v only driven other cts's in sport mode in like 2 test drives for about 30 seconds. I think any changes I've noticed may have been mental..... Although, I cant put my finger on it but sometimes my CTS acts diffrently in situations. But doesnt it have somekind of memory for aggressive driving? I like to just cruise sometimes but I really do punch it down on this car alot too.

That's not how mine works at all! Shift points are higher ... BTW ... that's what longer is ... upshifting at higher RPM! It also eliminates overdrive and never shifts into it.
It could be as simple as a bad switch... I know mine is kind of sticky. There is no way that you couldn't know that it is in sport mode. It revs higher, and when you are really pushing it and let off the gas it will hold that gear. It makes it feel more like a manual... I would start with the switch itself. K.I.S.S.
i never knew aboout this switch? wheres it located? what CTS does it come with?

Try on the highway at 65 mph. Push the Sport button. The car downshift one gear. Hold that speed for approx one minute and its back on overdrive.

The shift point is not higher. GM would never let the car to go higher in rpm's that could result disaster. Floor it with and without sport mode and check closely at what rpm's it shifts. There should be no difference.

Thats not what the manual says, but its what my car does. According to the manual, the car will shift at higher rpms when in Sport Mode. But from experience with a couple CTS' now, the car will redline in Sport or normal.
in the owners manual:

"In sport mode the vehicle will have firmer
shifting and increased performance."

"the transmission may
remain in a gear longer than it would in normal driving
mode" (when you release your foot from the gas pedal so it wont upshift)

But exactly like Concorso said, normal or sport mode, when full throttle, it shifts at the exact same rpms. (redline)

It should be by your gear selector, but I don't believe that all of the CTS's came with it.

IIRC, I read somewhere that prior to 2005 it was only part of the Sport Package then in 2005, it became Standarad Equipment.

As for shift points ... I'm leaving to go home now but will try a few full throttle runs and see if shift points are the same ...
I stand corrected! The shift points are the same at WOT ~6500-6750 RPM 1st through 3rd. Only diff was Sport mode never went into 5th. As stated, letting off the gas in Sport Mode does not immediately downshift like Normal mode.
I have noticed too in Sport Mode, it you let off and as you are slowing down, if you tap the accelerator, it will downshift for you into a higher gear...
I feel left out. I wanna play with sport mode!!! Any more ideas to get it to work?
