I just found this site so here's a question you've probably seen before (sorry).

I have a 2004 CTS 3.6L. Does this car have a speed limiter? I took it out to a deserted road and put the pedal to the metal, whereupon the car blasted to 130 and seemed to die at that speed. So speed limiter or is the advertised top speed of 145 just hype?

Thanks,
WY

If you dont have the sport package the speed is limited at like 130. I had my 03 with sport package up to 140 and have had my current CTS 145. Suposedly, on a sport pack CTS the cutoff is 148mph.

The standard CTS's that year (with 16" wheels) were limited to 130 due to the H-rated tires. Sport and Sport-Lux had higher limits, again due to the tire speed rating.

Don't know what the newer ones are spec'd at.

According to Car & Driver (Sep 07) the 3.6DI is good to 155. The 3.6 standard engine with sport pkg good for 145.
