Hi.

First post over here on the STS board. My father drives a new 2005 STS and the day after he got it, a warning light came on that said that speed would be limited to 80MPH. The dealer did something and it was okay for a couple of weeks, but then it came back. It's really problematic (not that he's a speed demon). Nonetheless, the dealer cannot fix it. A GM rep is supposed to weigh in tomorrow to determine if they'll buy the car back from him. He likes the car, so its disappointing that the dealer cannot fix it. Anyone ever hear of this issue?

The dealer and GM are supposed to decide soon what they are going to do. I don't see how they can choose not to buy it back, but what GM does and doesn't do is not always the path that seems to make the most sense.

The 2005 STS Owner Manual says the following:

I suppose that this can mean a faulty sensor or a faulty suspensions system. ​

Yup, but the dealer seems unable to identify a problem in the suspension.

Mine does it at the 121 MPH mark (which is reasonable) but at the 80MPH mark, wow, that sucks.

I hope they can get that fixed! Not just because of the speed (its illegal to hit that speed in just about every road in the country anyways) but because who knows that other problems that can lead to (having a bad suspension).

Exactly. So if the sensors on the car are going crazy at half that speed (80mph or 129kph) then there is definitely something wrong.

The only time something would go off at those speeds for me is if I made a sudden and quick shift in directions (like switching lanes quickly) or if i just hit a big pothole or something, even then it only says traction control or stability system, not electroncially limited.

Are you sure it's not referring to the number of points on his license?

If that light comes on it must be setting a code. Is there documentation of any trouble codes on your copy of the repair order?

Sounds like a MRC Problem, I doubt normal suspension systems would have this problem. Must be throwing a code, the dealer should be able to figure it out.

They're CTS Side scripts, but i'm sure you could get some STS ones. I ordered them from the dealer, about 9 bucks I think, self adhesive 3m tape on the back. Just tell the dealer you want to order a couple of the rear trunk STS emblems (the one on the right)

I don't know how it would look on the STS though, don't you guys have a turn signal placed there on the fender?

Yea Mark, You're right, there is a turn signal lens there. Liked your side scripts so much I forgot about it. Thanks....
