The plug numbers changed on the 2000+ models, was 41-950 on '98 and 41-987 on '00+

I personally would not try the wrong plug on one of these engines. It was changed for a reason.

DO NOT arbitrarily change spark plug heat range without very good reason and air/fuel mixture tuning. The end result may well be either eroded electrodes or heavy spark plug tip deposits.

Spark plugs are designed to run at pretty specific insulator and tip temperatures - experimentation is OK for tuning racing engines but, by and large, the engine manufacturer has already done your homework and you most likely cannot improve on the results.

AC Delco #41-950 Platinum plugs are as common as dirt. (So is the 2000+ #41-987.) The original plugs installed at the factory were branded DENSO (owner's manual) - later on AC Delco entered into a contract with DENSO to produce the same plug under the AC brand. Take a look at the plug and the box - "Made in Japan".
