When I hit the rev limiter in my manual V (which is very easy to do in 1st), I hear a weird sound..kind of a thud or clunk. Sounds like its coming from the exhaust? Anyone know what this might be? Some exhaust sound due to the sudden pressure drop?

Your hearing "blower cough". All that pressure has to go somewhere when the throttle is lifted.
