i went to visit my buddy and he's about 40 miles from where i live so i drove up there and had no problem, i got to his house and did whatever and left, when i left i heard a whining sound from the engine and i didn't check it out, so i drove home not thing about it and when i got home i checked cause on the way home i noticed that my subs i have weren't hitting as hard as usual, i have a capasistor(sp?) in the car that tells me the voltage and it was fine 13.8-14.1 normal area. so i checked under the hood and behold to me i see that something had exploded where the belt system is on the car, and now there is black oily crap on the belt, pulleys, on the waterpump cover, basically everywhere, so i'm thinking cv axle??? and then i rev the engine and the whining its coming from i think the altenator, but i don't have a stenoscope to really check plus its freezin out, so i look at the shield that we have on the front of the altenator blade and it's COVERED in that black oily crap, then i look at the belt and it's ripped in the middle, just a little not like a hole and its got a tear on the edge in one spot where the belt looks frayed. so i don't know what the hell happened and how i managed to get it home in one piece. so where should i start?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Find the source of th ecrap first. Check out CV boot. Remove serp belt, clean everything up. Turn manually all the accessories , pulleys to see if they make noise. Put a new belt. Check the level of oil, coolant, and powersteering fluid

Is this a 4.9, 4.5?
(they are almost the same anyway).
I agree with the other posts here, start by checking the fluids.
Take a good look at the water pump too. They are notorious for losing or breaking pulleys. Make sure it's on there tight and that all the pulleys are straight. It sounds like power steering fluid to me too.
I doubt that CV boot grease would make it up that far and that's not a typical scenario for CV boots.

brand new water pump(4 months old), yeah i checked the ps pump and it's full but the sound is near it but i think it's the altenator, but the grease looks like it came from my cv boot.
