Hi Diane:

I may be interested in your set of snow tires. How did they perform? Any jitters at highway speeds? Was acceleration/deceleration performance noticeably affected? How'd they fit? Most importantly, did the snow tires perform to your expectations; did you feel that you could conquer tough winter weather with these tires?

thanks,

Chuck Corsillo

Wow, lots o questions!

1) they worked great, especially during a snowstorm
2) no jitters, very smooth in fact, but they did require a little more steering effort
3) no noticeable difference in accel/decel
4) ideal fit, but you can tell they're not 17" wheels
5) i thought the wheels/tires were great; at one point i was the only car on the road with a bunch of trucks/SUV's...made me smile!

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
Diane
being a former truck and SUV driver, it really infuriated me to find that people in SUV's often think they belong places they do not. is it any suprise that the majority of cars in ditches are SUV's? just because it's 4-wheel drive doesn't mean it stops faster...believe me. sorry, just a little rant there...

besides, i think part of the challenge of winter driving is actually DRIVING. if you have the skills, you should be able to manage just about everything within reason. people don't understand that theres a science to it. you being on the road does not suprise me...obviously you're driving skills are on par...

those who get struck by a train deserve to get struck by a train, inconspicious it is not. furthermore, those who get stuck in the snow deserve to get on their knees and shovel. and yes of course, accidents do happen. i've made friends with a telephone pole in my life.

sorry, i'm really bored at work...
Your "rant" reminded me of a trip to New Orleans from Chicago that I did in my 91 Alfa Romeo Spider back in 1994. When I left we had "lake-effect snow," so I wasn't concerned about my car or my Pirelli tires. (As it turned out, the snow line stretched 500 miles south of Chicago...not exactly "lake-effect" IMO!)

After traveling just 30 miles in 90 minutes, I decided to stop overnight and wait until morning to assess the conditions. After kicking off a sheet of ice that encased the entire front end of the Spider, I headed back out. As I drove along plowed highway, to my right and left I saw NUMEROUS SUV's in the ditches, including a Chevy Suburban on its roof, all windows broken out. It was quite a sight.

Later on I hit a 30-mile patch of highway that hadn't been treated or plowed (I guess Mr. salt truck driver overslept) and at one point did a 360 and landed in the ditch myself, going maybe 35 mph. The tow truck that retrieved my car slid downhill a bit too...apparently there was a sheet of ice below the snow.

Which is another reminder that if there's ice on the road, it won't matter WHAT vehicle or WHAT tires you have. No traction, no action!

Diane

I just relisted the auction today: http://tinyurl.com/7gs2p

I uploaded five photos of the scratches but for some reason they're not showing up in the auction ad (I've emailed eBay about this). Email me and I'll send you the additional photos. [email protected]

I have a reserve price of $150 + shipping, BIN price of $165 + shipping. (A new wheel will cost you over $500.)

Thanks for your interest!

Cheers,
Diane
