Anybody interested in making it out to Buttonwillow raceway (near Bakersfield, CA) on July 9th? There's an organized drive/lapping weekend set up by the TCRA www.touringcarclub.com that caters to gear heads like us. That would be people with fast street cars. All you really need is a helmet. It's a great way to go "air the car out" in a safe setting. Cars are spaced out with designated passing zones. Even for novices you can do things with your V that you would never try on the street. There's some other novice friends coming out with their M-3s, a Viper plus a couple of Z06s. Plus lots of other fun cars. Everybody wants to drive their car to work on Monday so there's lots of respect. Should be a fun weekend. You can drive one day if you want. Hotels are laughable cheap. Beautiful track with some great people to hang with. Any takers?? Weigh in!:p

I'm very interested! I noticed on the site that it requires that all drivers take a driving school course prior to track day. I will call this weekend or the beginning of next week to see if that course is offered during the 9th (which is the following weekend) But I definitely intend to join and start going. Sounds like a lot of fun! Email me if you know anything about the course and whether or not I can somehow take it that weekend.

There is actually an event this weekend at Streets of Willow. Both Saturday and Sunday. Only $120 for the day and I believe $200 for both days. All you need is a helmet. They will allow motorcycle helmets if you're going for the first time. I am going away this weekened otherwise I would be there.

Check out their site at www.speedtrialusa.com

Been going to their events for a while with different cars I have had in the past.

Talked to Dean with TCRA, he said class wasn't necessary but you'd be with newbie's and with class you'd be one group up. I don't want to be behind a high school kid pushing a shopping cart.

He also said come to this course, get instructed, then go to Willow springs in Sept. He said our car would be killer at that track and spank bimmers, my kinda guy! He also said it's a family event, bring the whole family.

I feel a new addiction coming on..:bonkers:

Alright! Real enthusiasts!

You guys are going to love this track. I think it's even better than the main track at Willow Springs. (Not the Streets of Willow). It's not quite as fast top end but you will not be disapointed. Very technical and realatively safe (especially compared to Willow Springs for beginers, in my humble opinion).

I wish I was smart enough to find the electronic version of a naritive with Hot Laps around Buttonwillow that I have. If anyone wants a FAX copy just send me an email and I can FAX it to you. George@SunbeltSoCal.com It is done by a guy from the Northern California Porsche Owners Club, the one I read before the first day out there myself and it is really outstanding!

For the guys "bacheloring it" there's a Motel 6 in town that is laughable cheap. 661-764-5153

I can do Saturday only unfortunetly but I'll take what I can get and this is a good place to get it!

Come on Southern Cal guys! Weigh in! Heavymetals, it's not like you are working!.......Lawfive?.....3rd Street?.......ZO6Cady? Let's run some air over the V's! :lildevil:

Heavymetals,
I thought long and hard, well maybe a couple minutes, about FUBARing the car but decided I'm ready to see what this car will do. Besides getting on it on the on ramp and chasing bimmers light to light. I'm wanting to see what I can do against the track. Well maybe show a couple of bimmers..:lildevil: My son is even racing his mini PU in another class so I've got the whole family involved. My tune may change when I blow out a tire or drop a valve.

Unless I really suck, I've got the family signed up for willowsprings next. Nuremburg here I come...

Dennisscars,

Good call on the driving school. It is additional "track time" for sure and nothing like a walk through the turns, some pointers on car balance and some critique to get you up to speed. That way you get to drive the car to work on Monday too......

This weekend is "all about" doing things with this car that are just not possible to do safely in a street setting. And I can tell you from experience, this car loves it! On a road course I would call it first, powerful and then very predictable and forgiving at the limit. A nice combination. As much as all you guys like this thing in a straight line.....it belongs on a road course banging 4th gear at redline on a straight away and all over the Brembos to haul it down and drift through a series of corners!

Looking forward to seeing some of you guys there for sure!

One last thought and a little heads up. I hear there is a proceedure for breaking in brake rotors. Sorry I don't have the detail. The only reason I mention it is I warped my rotors with 3,500 miles on the car at Buttonwillow in December. They turned a litle blue. The dealer was kind enough to resurface them (once they said) but it might be worth researching if anybody has low miles or been very easy on the brakes.

Go V's :worship:

First Thanks to SoCalV for turning me on to this, great to meet you and what a blast! See you at Willow Springs!

Enjoyed the hell out of race school this weekend. I held my own out there. Kept up with ZO6 and Viper but couldn't keep up in corners. Smoked M5, and boxer. Got good respect from porche people, bimmers and viper wouldn't talk to me. I was second behind ZO6 and ahead of Viper when flag went green he immediately went to pass but did not gain on me, I stayed with Z06 but kept losing about a second per hard turn and couldn't make up time on straights. Z06 Vette guy just asked how the hell I was keeping up with him in the straights. Boxer guy came over and shook my hand and gave the most respect. He was hot in the turns but I would walk away from him in the straights. Got 1.14 righties and 1.05 lefties on a CW track. The track people said they could hear the maggie across the track.

At the school when the instructor asked what I was driving, all I said was a "Cadillac" all I got was a smerk..When it was my turn for the ride along and I got on it the first straight and the maggie spoke up with the windows open and I kept up with the Z06, he was like "damn, this thing rocks" I told him "not bad for a Caddie huh?"

I now have less desire to terrorize the neigborhood and am ready for the next event. :D

Wow, sounds like fun. Wish I'd been paying attention to the forum. All I did yesterday was chores.
