Prob. the low octane thing. I had the same problem, when I got mine, and I was worried my sparkplugs would be deformed or ?, but they were fine when I changed them. Just use the best stuff you can put into your gastank. I think lifter trouble is indicated by more of a "tick."

I guess you could use a thicker oil if you wanted to shut 'er up for good? Like when you want to sell it. ;) Also, I only experienced the knocking around 40 mph, never at idle, so on second thought it may not just be the octane.
