Nice looking Catera, but I'm confused. Is it a Sport? I see the wing but the wheels are wrong and the grille is chrome not "Satin". Not that it matters much. The Sport is more show than go. It's slightly lowered and sprung a little stiffer but beyond that and some satin trim it's the same as the base model. The 1999 Sport's suspension became the base set-up in 2000 so if yours is a base model with a wing she's at least a little sportier than the pre-facelift models.

I notice FL plates. Where does she winter? I bought mine in Tampa, fall of 2006. Found her on the WWW, flew down from Buffalo, bought her sight unseen, and drove her north 1400 miles. Took a detour along the Blue Ridge Pkwy and the Tail of the Dragon. Great trip.

Thanks Elvin, It is a 2000 base with a wing. I bought it from a long time used car dealer friend for a song....he had it sitting on his lot for about a year. Made me an offer that was hard to turn down, it hasn't disappointed me yet. It needs a little now and then but I have never had a Cadillac or European car that hasn't yet. Considering this is both.....that should say enough. It has all the options except the CD changer, I have that in my Grand Cherokee and don't miss it in the Catera. It spends the winter in Naples. It is rust free as it was a Cali car for most of it's life until landing in New England. Just ordered a new plate for it..."ZIG HEIL". I do think Ziggy made the Catera the red headed step child of the line, but of course GM has had that habit over the years.

I put a little work into this but it was mostly maintenance stuff. I learned a by working on this car. Patience is required. But I love this car. I'm 'pot committed' since I only paid $500.00 for it when it had 87k on it. I have owned many cars...junkers, muscle, mercedes, lincolns, acuras, fords, chevy trucks, blazers, denalis, chryslers, pontiacs, dodge. dollar for dollar vs return in comfort drivabilty I have to say that this catera is the top 3. my $100.00 88 acura integra 247k strong runner has oodles of utility ease of maintenence and repair. But the Catera is my love. I'll show so more pics of the work I have done with timing belt, water pump, thermostat spark plugs, rear air self leveling shocks. Drives very comfortably at 90-100 on turnpike. Some little minor bugs/fixes along the way...all relatively inexpensive. mostly blood and sweat.

I missed this when you originally posted it. Nice looking car, but since I'm partial to black cars a thumbs up from me is almost a given. I hope you stick around and maybe post some more pictures. Activity on this forum has slowed down lately. I hope it's just the weather. Hate to think that owners are giving up on the Catera. If you like pictures flip through my album of Catera & Omega shots. It might give you ideas for your car. In addition I suggest some articles that will help you maintain and maybe upgrade your Catera. A beautiful black model like yours deserves pampering.

Very nice. I have always liked the Omega's simple lines, smooth and aerodynamic, unlike the cars of today with all their edges and creases. Tell us more about yours. What engine does it have? The Catera came only with the 3.0L V6. I wish we had gotten the Tubo Diesel over here.

This is my new Catera, year is 2000 with the sport package. Black on Black leather with the sport Recaro seats no sunroof or sunshade but has the Bose 8 speaker sound system without the Cd changer in the trunk. Picked it up really cheap and had it checked over by my buddy at his shop it has worn sway bar links, shocks need replacing and rotors. Everything else was tight and not worn underneath, tires in rear are winters and new looking with lots of tread front has all seasons that's have a couple seasons left. Engine is strong and very different than my 98 but it's all in the new throttle in these MY , tranny shifts like butter also compared to the 98 which was giving me limp mode troubles. Has a couple bulbs that are out including passenger HID ordered a cheap philips one off eBay just for the winter then I'll change them as a set n keep others as back up also ordered tail lights in led. She has very small rust happening that I will get rid of when summer hits on corner of wheel well penny sized. Here she is.

I love my little Catera- she saved me during a snowy spin/slide, under 15mph, but after spinning, you gain speed and hit hard! I spun 2-3x and went backwards into a 20 foot deep ditch and my headlights pretty much straight up - my left front wheel caught on the metal culvert and stopped the car from flipping upside down! My control arm was twisted up like how those old fashioned sardine cans used to open... But not a mark anywhere else on my car! Waiting for one last part and it will be back on the road!!

Long time, since any pictures were posted here...
So I'll post some of mine.
Like I stated in another thread: I own this Catera since last november. Since then a lot of TLC was put in (mainly maintenance, since the car was sitting for almost 10 years).
I also own the European brother/sister; the Opel Omega. Both have a 3.0 V6 under the bonnet. My Omega is fully Irmscher tuned (optically, engine tuning by Irmscher is worth pure gold).
The Catera's front has an Irmscher spoiler installed. Still pondering if I will leave it, or not...

Wow Elvin, I'm a 5 year owner of a 1997 Caters. You have nailed just about everything I've learned about Caters and have had to deal with it. The good news is it still running. November 2018, yes I still love it but I have one more issue. It stumbles sometimes when ambient temperature is high. It doesn't set a code. I've switched a couple of relays around (fuel pump) and it stumbles less. Any ideas? Do you still have your Caters?
