Ok gents, Im havign alot of trouble locating a new shiftknob for my 95 Eldawg...I dotn like the 92-95 style shifters, miens worn out and ratty. I want to get the 96-02 version, but i know that the sevilles had woodgran ones. Would those fit on the Eldo, as msot parts are itnerchangeable? I have a shale interior. If anyoen can find me a shiftknob, preferably woodgran Id really appreciate it.

Any suggestions or comments let me know

thanks

The STS usually has a wood grain shifter. You might want to try EBAY, Yahoo, Google, or try going to a junk yard to see if there's any wrecked STS' there that you might be able to pop it off of. Just lift the knob straight up and it should pop off. I thought about getting a wood grain one for my 99 SLS. Good luck.

My assumption is that it will fit. There are people out there who fix damaged seats by adding dye. My father had his driver seat touched up and it looks like new.

Go to your nearest Caddy dealer and ask them who they use to fix leather seats in Caddys. If they have someone, they should give you the contact info. After you get in touch with the person, offer cash. It makes the world go 'round. I'm sure he/she will help you.

Negative! On our '95s the shift knob is retained by a plastic "staple" on the front side of the knob (facing the dash).

Put the shift lever in 1st gear to see it easily. Remove the staple with a pair of needle nose pliers or such. THEN you can lift the knob off.

Tombo47,

If you find any sources please let us know.

I recently had mine detailed and while the fellow did an otherwise fine job, I think he took a wire brush to my shift knob.

Now it's still the same nicotene-like color it was before, but it feels like grabbing a steel wool pad. :banghead: Arghhh!

Regards,
Warren

Trying to find a good used shift knob is a PITA. I ended up painting mine black. Used interior paint purchased from Murray's Auto Parts. It was around $6. I believe the brand was Duplicolor.

On eBay, there are usually shift knobs for sale. However, they ask for too much money and in avg. condition. Some look suspect...that is, not original color, as if they have been painted. So, be careful.

Another option is to paint it yourself with factory paint color. These guys sell interior paint...

They are expensive. I have no experience using their interior paint, however, I have used their regular body spray paint, and the match is perfect!

Gear shifter painting has been discussed not too long ago. Check the following link to that post.

Tombo, I know you would like the wood grain shifter. Shoot, I would too. It would match the rest of my interior. If you don't find one, however, you do have the option of painting your old one. That is what I did. I looked for about a month. I figured I would paint it for the meantime. Well, after it was done I was very impressed with how it turned out.
