I took my 2011 SRX to the dealer yesterday for an oil change (first one) and the HVAC recall. While I was there they also reprogrammed the oil life system. On the receipt it reads:
Monitor programming of ECM
Software update for HFV6 engine oil life system
V2413 reprogram ECM for the oil life systems 0.4
Expires with base warranty.

Anyone else have this done and does anyone know what the original problem was?

Hmmmmmmmmm....sounds like they "adjusted" the oil change interval while they pay for it under your "Free Maintenance" program, given w/all the 2011's? Then it expires w/ the "basic warranty" and goes back to a more frequent interval ? Hmmm......

Anybody else ?

Wow, no comments?

I hear now from my auto shop friend that Honda and BMW have done this "update " too. VW to follow he says. Next thing ya know we'll find out all the new car's EPA's MPG figures are wrong.........oh wait, that was 2008!

I have a 2010 SRX, without the free maintenance of my 2011 buds. Guess I should start changing oil at 30% oil life remaining? I don't want a worn out timing chain/camshaft at 40K miles. ( that will be past 5 years for me) Not feeling the love right now..........

Well at least they are letting us take 10% of our remaining payments to adjust for a badly worn retirement account! NOT! LOL

My daddy said life wouldn't always be fair, so concentrate on the windfalls.......

In 2010 when I payed for oil changes for my SRX, the engine required synthethic oil. Mobil 1.
Now in 2011, and GM pays for the oil changes on my wagon, the engine now requires just a synthetic blend.
Hmmmmmmmmm, mysterious
I was told to change every 3 thousand or 50% of oil life. Sounds like they re-programed
yours for 60%.

I'm sticking with oil changes every 6-7K miles using full synthetic. The little extra MPG pays for it. I've been using full syn-tec for years. A blend averages only 20% synthetic/80% reg dino oil.

If you lease, let GM put their Dexros in your 2011 for free. If you own and intend to keep your car, use full syntec. You won't be sorry.

Anybody know if the 2012 will give free maintenance?

I just love the term "free". As we all know, it's not really "free", they just increase the price of the car to pay for it. Call it what you will, but it's NOT free. :)

I don't see why it would only be a one year program...
Especially since service and maintenance have been "free" on Cadillac's up here for years! :cool2:

I had my '11 SRX factory serviced yesterday and they installed the synthetic blend called DEXROS. Was advised that full sythetic would have been additional charge, but the car came with the blend and that's recommended by the factory. It improves fuel economy and engine efficiency. There was absolutely no re-programming of my ECM. Tire rotations / change of cabin filters, etc. on my next visit. Total cost for oil / filter service, $0.

GMJim, I find that most dealerships still try to use the 3 months/ 3 thousand miles or 50% oil life as their gauge to try to lure owners to come back to the dealership for their oil changes much sooner than they really need to. :tisk:

If dealerships would only instruct their customers on how to use or relie on GM's OLS - Oil Life System monitors they would not only save their customers money but also help out the enviorment.

Please read this the below article that I had posted a couple of years ago... it is very informative information on GM's OEL Systems.

I made it to 7,642 miles on my SRX before the oil life system said it was time to change the oil. Now I have approx. 8900 miles on my car and it says I have 67% left. My driving habits have not changed in the least. I'm math challenged (actually too lazy to deal with it) so if one of you bright people wants to do the math, I'd be curious if I'm going to be at approx. 2 x 7642 before my next oil change is indicated.

Steve , I doubt it. More likely, the OLM system was accidentally reset by someone. It's easy to do...... Maybe on a Recall/other service and a reset-happy mechanic jumped the gun?
Just my guess. Possible?
