I was driving to work yesterday morning and the messages "Service Stabilitrack System" and "Service Traction Control system" came accross the information screen below the speedometer. The tranction contol light to the right of the speedo and the parking brake light came on as well.

Called On Star and had them run dyagnostics to see if they could see the issue. They said everything checked out. When I got back in the car for lunch and after work everything was fine.

Driving to work this morning the same thing happened. Has anyone had a similar issue or could know what the problem is? I will be taking the car to the dealer tomorrow, but I’m anticiapting the common “Can’t duplicate the issue” reponse. Thanks for any info.

Any recent mod work done, or any mod work done at all?

I have had this happen after an install, it turned out to be a bad ground.

Yup! FWIW, I had those exact messages pop up on my wife's '99 STS last year with the ABS and stabilitrak rendered totally non-functional. Car would only launch in 2nd gear as well.
Turned out also to be a bad ground!

Best regards,

Elie

I haven't done any mods immediately before getting the error messages. I hard wired a stealth cable to the power for the rear view mirror for my radar detector about 3 weeks ago. I have not had any error messages till yesterday.

I also have an aftermarket sub-woofer. That has been installed for about 9 months without issue.

I also have a Airaid CAI. It's been on installed for awhile without issue as well.

The car is at the dealers. If they can't find anything I will mention TSB##PIC5428A (Thanks MReiland). I will then check the MAF sensor and the grounding for my after market electronics.

Those with grounding issues. What was the detail of the grounding issue.

Thanks. I'll post an updates.

Service Stability Sys is notorious for being caused by the steering wheel position sensor on the Seville and the Escalade. Makes sense wheel speed sensor issues could do it too.

Yup.

Was gonna ask, is the steering wheel off center at all? If so, that could be why you have the light on,...as far as why, I have been seeing a few cars coming in with lower control arms loose on one of the two from lowers. This, obviously could be an issue. If you have recently had an alignment,...I strongly suggesting making sure that the front A arm bolts are indeed tight, VERY TIGHT. If not, they may become loose, and, you'd get a message like this,...plus, the wheel would be off center. If you got out and looked at the car, you'd also notice that the tires/wheels would probably be toed in, easily visible to an untrained eye. This can also happen with mild impact damage,...

Got the car back. The issue the dealer found was that the brake fluid was low and would expose a sensor causing the codes to throw. Then topped off the fluid and checked for any leaks. No leaks, and I didn't have any codes thrown. So, seems like that was it. It does seem like an odd solution though. Props to the dealer.

Additional work:
Had the tie rod recall done.
They ordered a new truck deck brake light that they said has been redesigned to correct the paint rubbing issue. The paint was getting worn off.
They adjusted the sunroof to help with excessive road/wind noise.
They adjusted the drivers side window to correct constant creaking noise.
Replaced a blown fuse for the air condition - I think it blew when we had a -25 cold spell in the winter. A fuse for the windshield washer pump blew then and I replaced it.

I guess all the little fixes are what I get for buying the first year of a new car design.

-25 F. It seemed odd to me. 2 -10 amp fuses blown. One I replaced for the right side DRL and Washer pump and the one the dealer replaced for the air con. I got the idea to check the fuse from another post that said a fuse blew when it was cold.

Hey guys and gals, and Happy Easter to everyone!
So I was changing my steering wheel from the leather to suede/alcantara wheel. Pretty simple right? No not really. After the install “Service Stabilitrak” message came up and 2 lights on. I think the other light is the “traction control off” light in the dash. After doing some research I figured out I most likely screwed up the Clock Spring. So I replaced that, which went well actually. Problem is the “service stabilitrak “ lights are still on. Everything seems to work well and they’ll actually go off sometimes, but come right back on within a minute or two. During the 2nd wheel install for the clock spring change, everything went perfectly and connected well without any issues. So for the life of me I can’t figure out where to go from here.
So anyone have any issues after messing with the steering wheel or steering column?
Also, I hooked up my OBDLink 2 which I’m not super familiar with and no codes came up at all. Not too sure how good these at home scanners are but bought it a while back for some simple code clearing and simple issues. It’s not helping me here too much.

Did you get it fixed? I have the same exact issue.

Man I am so sorry. I thought I did post somewhere. Hope you come back and read this.

After changing my clock Spring AND steering angle sensor, I and you(if you did what I did) have to take to the dealer or auto shop to have them recalibrate the steering sensor. It was $104 at the dealer(with 30%off coupon) and $65 at Christian Bro’s Auto. I chose the dealer. Took it in, sat and waited 1 hour and it was fixed. Lights off and runs like a champ. Lemme know if you need anything else. I‘ll check back sooner this time

Kenny
