My car 2010 CTS . All of a sudden is reading Service Air Bag... My question is could this possibly be a weak fuse or resistor causing this.. Hard to believe a air bag would go bad.
Thanks
Most likely a bad sensor or sometimes the wiring harness connection under one of the seats becomes strained.
I had the light come on once & simply moving my passenger seat forward a few inches made it go away. If that is unsuccessful, get a code reader that reads abs codes and it should tell you what sensor is faulty.

BEFORE REPLACING ANY AIRBAG SENSOR IT IS ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FIRST!

Have you checked to see if your wife is unhappy lately?

Seriously, take that advice ^^^^^ and double & triple check EVERYTHING before you reconnect power, because one little slip up and it's gonna cost you alot to fix it.

Also worthy of mention, electronics placed on the seats (smartphone, laptop, tablet, etc.) will make the sensors all wonky and trip the service air bag message.

Had that with my laptop bag in my caddy. Kept going on and off and eventually threw a code. Put my bag in the floor instead of on the seat and all was well

Actually, a scanner able to read ABS codes won't do much for air bag codes... You will likely have to get the codes read by someone with a snapon tool, tech ii or similar scanner that can read Air bag codes.

The air bag system has some very expensive components and some not so expensive items.

Before spending hours trying to identify the source getting the codes read will help dramatically. It likely will be a specialty item scanner. In my '03 truck I had to manually pull the codes. I am not sure how to manually pull the codes on a canbus vehicle yet (2008 and newer).

Could be as simple as a loose wire, or a bad impact sensor to a bad bag or clockspring.

I tried my code scanner, read 0 dtc. moved driver seat back 1/2 inch pushed all connectors together with the smart phone in the caddy and no more message...
Thank you all for the advice I will pass on this information.

Scanners that can read ABS codes can usually also read body (B) codes and connectivity (U) codes, same as the TechII. What you don't get are the supplementary codes, eg. C0204-xx.

All depends on the scanner. I had one (Before it was stolen) and my PC software... Both pull the ABS but neither pulls the Air Bag... I got lucky and someone told me how to manually pull the code from the module.
Technically ANY scanner is able to pull the codes but if they are not programmed to do so they wont. The request to get a PCM or BCM diagnostic code is the same as it would be for ANY module, they only change the address of the module to poll. But MOST places will want to charge more for the ability to pull more codes while it really is just a couple lines of code. I will be picking up a Chinese Tech II clone and do some reverse engineering on it to install those codes into an M2 module so I will be able to do that with PC software... Just need the time to do it. Oh and a spare $300 to grab one.

Possible fix: while sitting in the driver's seat, pull your feet straight back to your seat front. Where your right heel hits the vertical piece of carpet on the front of your seat, lean over and feel for a little lump which is a wire connector. Move it, jiggle it and look at your DIC. Does the service air bag light go away? This happens in my wagon often.

Mine has been doing this intermittently for a coiuple months now. I know it's the passenger side for sure and tried checking wires and such. I don't have a code reader able to read this system do I was looking for a local indy shop working on Caddys and GM cars.
I am in Northern NJ so if anyone has any recommendations please let me know.

Re: Air bag.

So be careful when messing around with air bags...
Which is why I still don't understand the dumbasses who drive around with Muffy and Fluffy, their tiny dogs, while sitting in their laps. One accident when that bag goes off and Muffy and Fluffy are no longer puffy.

Thread from the dead.

Last year, I had an issue with a "service air bag" message on the driver information screen. After reading threads and doing some research, simply moving my passenger seat to it's original position after my son moved it back for more legroom solved my problem.

Fast forward to last week. I noticed the message reappeared after moving the front seats back to gain access to the kick panels for the sunroof drain mods. Figured by moving the seats back I must've put strain on an underseat harness.

Did just as tinman advised: grabbed connection located at right foot area behind closeout carpet at front of seat, squeezed connector, and VOILA! Airbag light & DIC message---buh-bye.

Thanks, brother!
