Service AFL lamp?

Got into the car yesterday afternoon to leave work, and started the car with this "service AFL lamp" in the message center.

Called the dealership to inquire about it.

They asked me go and restart the car and check to see if it still appeared which I already had done. Still there. same as this morning.

What if anything throws this message?

They said I would have to bring it in for a check and see. Has anyone here dealt with this? Thanks

The car has detected a fault with the Adaptive Forward Lighting system.

I had mine in a couple of times for with this, once the level sensor screwed up, once I apparently tore a wire out of something.

Yes, and I've taken my srx into Cadillac 3x for solution with no results and Im not happy -- on visual inspection of my lights, I don't see a problem? They tell me it's fixed . Until this moment, I had no idea what AFL light means. We live in Mexico and I was thinking the f in AFL had something to do with frenos (brakes). It is at least a relief to know, it's NOT my brake lights.

I have the same issue. Looked at my extended service contract and Item is not covered. leaving me with the option of giving my local dealer 135.00 to tell me that the Service AFL light is on and the system needs servicing. The service writer, who also owns an SRX like mine said he never heard of the issue. Wish someone could break through the gloom for us. I'll let you know if I get to a reasonable solution for the issue. You know what they say about misery. Looks like we're getting company at least lol... Jonathan

I have done some more digging. In June of 2009 there were enough complaints to generate a Service Bulletin on the issue. (see TSB PIC-5175)"Engineering is attempting to determine the root cause of the AFL headlamp system not operating." Also in Sept of 2010 another TSB was generated on the issue. (see TSB PI-0219) "Inspect and replace headlamp bulb and/or Ballast. Reprogram". Also in my 2010 owners manual they recognized enough of a problem to put it into the manual as a potential fault to refer to the dealer for service. Can you guys post your mileage these problems started to occur. Mine was around 81,000 Starting to think we might have been set up my GM

I have a 2014 SRX and I received a "Service" light for my Adaptive Forward Lights at 68000 miles. There's nothing at all wrong with my Adaptive Headlights, they work fine, however, I keep getting this "Service" message. I notice once I turn my steering wheel a few inches left or right when driving above 20 miles the "Service " light goes out, but immediately comes back on afterwards. I asked my Dealer to look at it when going in for an oil change and tire rotation, he said it would cost me $120.00 for a mechanic to just look at to find the fault. I've been a Cadillac owner for many years, for him to tell me this I realized that I'm not looked at as a "Loyal Customer" (as I've been throughout the many years), just someone who GM can milk money from for their profits. Needless to say, I waved the service. I believe this is a programming issue for the AFL module, since there's noting wrong with my headlights, they work as they were designed to. However, if anyone can find a solution to this issue it would be great, but until then, just something else I have to learn to live with for now.

Same thing happend to my wife’s SRX4 last night. Everything seems to be working fine, the headlights do the alignment procedure when starting the engine and illuminate normal, but i did notice that when driving the headlights don’t move according to the steering wheel like they used to, I know the afl motors are working causes the alignment process acts normal. AFL amber light doesn’t go away and the “service afl lamp” message appears every time the vehicles turns on. Does anyone have figure things out?? This definitely has to be a software issue cause all the hardware is working fine, SRX no longer has warranty so Dealer is out of the question.

Did anyone happen to find a fix for this AFL issue? My dash light is on, and will not go out. I even tried disconnecting the battery thinking it would reset it. It did NOT! I'm with Maadmax on this issue, and will not fork out $120 to the dealer to get this amber light to go out. I'm considering trading the car in after owning it for 5 months, and buy a Lexus. I already spent over $500 in repairs for new stabilizer bar, and links because the glued on bar bushings wore out @ 43k.

I found out today by taking my SRX into my local repair shop, and had the Service AFL fault read by their computer which kicked out an error code. It turned out that I have a Rear broken rod that connects the sensor to the rear control arm, and believe it, or not this also affects the forward lighting issue. Now I have to order the part from GM Parts to get it fixed I hope!

Stacy, Are you sure its the amber warning light on your dashboard located above the speedometer that's giving you the message? The part that broke on my SRX is located on the left rear wheel axle. Its purpose is for leveling the headlights. If that's the part you need then you better take it to a mechanic, and don't buy it from a Cadillac dealer because their price is lot more expensive.

Thank you for this information. I have been going crazy over the AFL warning light. I believe that might be the issue for my car (2010 SRX) as well. When I turn my car on at night, they do a little dance, go up and down automatically but then I get AFL warning. Thank you for this information. I was wondering if you have a photo of the rear left axel? I tried looking there, couldn't find the tiny rod. Please post pictures

Your picture shows the "Advanced Front Lighting" warning lamp which is the same message I had on mySRX. So can one of your older boys look behind the left rear wheel axle to see if there is a tiny black metal rod the size of a very thin pencil that may have broken off or is hanging down? The rod is connected to a rotating electrical switch, and the axle by a very tiny ball fitting on each end of the metal rod. This is where mine broke off. They don't just sell the rod unless you can go to a junk yard near you to see if they have any wrecked SRX's. If thats the case then the part (GM Part # 22759605) is the one you'll need to make the warning light go out. There are also two more of these same rods, one connected on each front wheel axle, and are connected to electrical switches on those wheels too.

Just curious. When it was the Headlamp adjuster sensor? Both lights do the "dance" but the driver side wont go up and down. I recently replaced the headlamp assembly with a used one and cant get the afl light off. They tried everything so far but never gave me an answer about if they checked that sensor or not.
