Secret/Hidden features?

Did a key word search for both terms, didn't get any results, but apologies if this has already been discussed - any hidden menus, settings, features, etc. that aren't called out in the owners manual?

Also, manual shows that I can have up to 5 pages (8 icons each) on the touchscreen, yet I only get 1.5 pages worth of stuff, and it doesn't seem like there's the ability to download any new "apps" or whatever they're called. Am I missing something?

Thanks.

Your question is timely... I got my car from the carwash a week ago and when I got in the car, the CUE screen had an unusual menu called, I think, "Development Menu." Before I could push a button to explore, my daughter hit the home button to put on her music. Does anybody know anything about this menu?

There are a couple menus like that. I had a thread before showing them. I did it by accident so I took pictures. They were screens telling all types of calculations and such. I can't remember how to get to them right now but I will try again. I have pics somewhere and will find them but that was 1 of the screens I got to. There was nothing I could do with them but read and look. Someone else here knows how to get to them. They were a combination of buttons to get to the screen. So someone at the car was was playing with your screen.

Not sure is this is what your looking for. Seems that On Star can integrate or possible down load apps from google play store.

Setting up Your Vehicle's Mobile App

Follow these important steps to properly activate your vehicle's mobile app. iPhone3 requires iOS 7.0 or later. Android2 smartphones require OS 4.0.3 or later.

Make sure your vehicle and mobile device are compatible with the app.

Download the App from the App Store, or Google Play. Have your username and password handy
.
Launch the app and enter your onstar.com or Owner Center username and password. Don't have these? Sign up >>

Agree to Legal Terms to continue into your vehicle’s app. You’ll only need to do this on your initial login.

Keep your OnStar PIN handy. You’ll need it to access features within your app. Forgot your PIN? Manage your PIN or push your blue OnStar button to speak to an advisor.

That would fill up the extra pages if you installed more apps.

No, I haven't. I have such little patience anymore for "stuff" that doesn't work. As soon as that happened, I dumped it and reverted to "OnStar". I suppose whenever "OnStar" quits being supported, I have to retry "MyCadillac"...

the LCD information areas in the instrument panel is called the DIC (Driver Information Center)

the R2D2 looking dome on the dashboard is your automatic headlight sensor and is called the 'Twilight Sentinel'

a double push forward on the headlight stalk enables the automatic high beams

one click up on the wiper stalk enables the auto wipers

if you look at the back seat from the open trunk you will see a lock for the passthrough to lock it for valet purposes

if you unclick the visor and rotate it to the side window you can slide it back and forth on its rod to position it nicely to block the sun...that's what the â—„â–ş on the visors hinge means

the â–ş next to the gas can symbol on the gas gauge points to the side the fuel filler is on

the headlights don't just turn, they are adaptive and use beamforming...that is to say the amount of movement in the beams is not connected to the steering wheel...this is shown by the fact that they do not move when at a standstill no matter how you saw back and forth on the wheel...but as soon as you start rolling and then turn the wheel they move...this is because rather than turn with the wheel the car is using your velocity and the steering angle to calculate your yaw rate and uses the results of this calculation to project light where your car is going to be...the beamforming is the car moves the left and right beams individually and stretches and contracts the beam around bends, so as not to create dark spots mid corner because it pointed the projector elsewhere

the car can park itself in both parallel and perpendicular fashion and in left and right hand parking situations....the 2017 and later versions of CUE have on screen buttons to point this out and control those features, but in earlier (2016 and older) versions of CUE these are a bit of a mystery....after engaging the parking feature, long press the button again to toggle between parallel and perpendicular modes...by default scanning spaces and parking happens on the passenger or right side of the car, but again in pre 2017 CUE use the indicator stalk and click down to turn on the left blinker and the park assist switches scanning as well as the self parking mode to the left or drivers side of the car

touch random things on the CUE screen like the time in the corner or temperature in the other corner for some surprises

in the scrolling station list in CUE you can switch the labels to display station ID, Artist, or Song title

the globe icon in any text input screen turns on handwriting recognition

you can save radio stations, phone numbers, nav destinations, and tone settings in the radio presets...up to 60 of them

you can use the easy exit button in the driver memory as a third preset if you don't use the automated functions like returning to your position at startup or opening up to a comfortable exit position at shutdown

if you put your car into sport or track mode...once the DIC acknowledges you are in one of those modes, if you double tap the traction control button, you will enable a secret car mode called 'Competitive Mode', you'll know you've done this correctly when the DIC says "Stabilitrak Competitive Mode Enabled"

easily one of my favorite features....they literally do as described ...when engaged the car tries to turn on the high beam and favor them as much as possible, but uses the cars cameras to look for headlights and tail lights and dims the light automatically and faster than you can react to not blind anybody....as a matter of safety, ease, comfort, and confidence during night driving they are wonderful

The sun visor ability to slide is nice, I wish they had found a way to have it extend to the B pillar. It seems all to often when I need this feature the open area allows sun to hit me right in the corner of my eye. My old Buick has a double visor system. The main visor swings to the side then has a plastic slide that extends to the B pillar. This then gives you access to a smaller shade that is able fold down and has a bit of side to side travel for the windshield. Point to the old (99) Buick.

The Rain Sense wipers, got spoiled by them on the 99. Looked a few GM cars over the last decade and they were not available so no go for me.
Like the fact that with the wipers engaged the brakes are dried in prep for emergency stop. Also it is cool to see the wipers go to "parked" position when they have not made a pass for a period of time. Very nice tech advance.

I have found that if the car is turned off with the seat cooling engaged when you remote start the car they are blowing. No indication on the center stack till you push the start button, I believe the same is true for heating function.

If you set the rear air to coldest setting, and put a beverage in the console storage bin it will be kept decently cool for a long period. Also included in this operation is the bottoms of the cup holders in console get a chill as well while not likely designed a nice little extra. Of note don't put your regular eyeglasses in the storage bin as they will fog over when you put them on upon exiting the car.

Auto dimming of the digital gauge cluster. I noticed this for the first time recently when I got stopped under an overpass midday. Reacts very quickly great design especially if you enter tunnels ect.

Love the option to listen to incoming text when synced to your phone. Have yet to take time to see if I can I add auto responses to the available built in the system. I wonder will it read cuss words?

While not a hidden feature, love the internet function and speed at which it works. It is actually faster than my home internet. I found this out after a recent day trip for business and one the 3 passengers using a laptop commented how fast it was. So I did a speed test on my phone and laptop.

Love this car hope the V-Sport lives on in future gens, as a "Full V" would get me in serious trouble.

Once you pair your phone to the CUE system, if you have a text come across while driving the Cue system will alert you. The alert is done via a chime and on the premium (of which I know first hand) you can use the toggle on the right hand side of the steering wheel to dismiss or listen, the same options are also at the same time available on the CUE screen.

I would suggest you pair your phone with the system, then while sitting in the driveway have someone send you a text while the car is running. To assist you with the function of this. It is great, as in my post I have yet to dive in and see if I can build personal responses. The great thing about the CUE system is if we can't send the response we want, we have the option of using voice command to call the text sender and speak to them without ever taking hands off the wheel.

Hope this is helpful

Just found this thread on page 13 so it has been a while since any updates. I just bought a 17 Prem and have been searching for any update tips/tricks/secrets. Especially looking for the audio system to see if any advanced ways to mess with the tone settings. A bit dissapointed in the Bose system vs the base system in my A6. I did find this in another post and guess if would quality as a trick.
___
you can store different tone settings in one of the 60 presets, you can also store nav destinations and phone numbers but those are discussions for a different thread:

there are two phases

Phase 1: Creating Presets
  1. go here: home→Audio→Menu→Tone Settings
  2. now set the tone to the way you like it... once done look at the bottom edge of the CUE screen in the center for a little "Λ" character
  3. touch and hold on "Λ"
  4. maintain contact with the screen do not lift your finger and slide your finger up toward the top of the screen
  5. you have now revealed the hidden presets tray. there will 1, 2, or 3 rows depending on how far up you slid the preset tray
  6. once the preset tray is revealed press and hold an available preset and your tone settings will be saved as "Tone 1"....the number will increment with each tone setting saved
  7. to set different tone settings for your needs repeat steps 2-6 ....the number will increment with each tone setting saved "Tone 2", "Tone 3", "Tone 4", etc

now you're done with phase 1

Phase 2: Managing Presets
  1. go here: Home→Settings→Radio→Manage Favorites
  2. once here you can touch and hold your favorites and drag them around, until you've placed them in your desired position
  3. now select one of the tone settings you've created and touch the feather icon at the bottom of the screen labeled "Rename"
  4. type in the name of the tone as you see fit such as "Rock Tone", "Jazz Tone", "Madonna Tone" (your welcome lajollaboy:))
  5. once done typing touch the green checkmark to set the new label

It can be a bit tricky at times. I don't always get it on the first try.
With the vehicle stopped, make sure that you're in Sport or Track Mode.
Press Traction Control once to deactivate. Wait for the main screen to clear the warning that it's off.
Then press it twice in succession and you should see the Competition Mode Enabled (as well as a LOT of yellow warning lights telling you that you're on your own for computer assistance).
If you still have a problem, I can make a quick video and post it on youtube.

I would be remiss if I didn't add a disclaimer that the vehicle assistance is TOTALLY off in this mode. The car is assuming that you know what you're doing and if the car gets away from you, it will not intervene. In such an event, firmly place your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye.

IMHO Track Mode gives you enough leeway to have enough fun. I've done donuts and drifted around turns without enabling Competition Mode.
*I think it is ACTUALLY called "Competitive Mode".
