I live in Indiana and since this state passed the seatbelt law couple of years ago (because it's obviously the governments job to make sure people don't hurt themselves by being friggin idiots!) we are treated to periodic "Seatbelt Enforcement Checkpoints". Basically a couple of cops stand in the middle of the road and write tickets to anyone not wearing a seatbelt. It never ceases to amaze me that ANYONE gets caught by these! I mean come on, you're driving down the road and you can see red and blue flashing lights from about a mile away. By a quarter-mile out you can see that there is a cop standing in the middle of traffic right next to a 6 foot tall (sometimes its 10ft tall and has flashing lights) orange sign that says "Seatbelt Enforcement Checkpoint". Despite it being so obvious, they ALWAYS have at least 5 or 6 people at a time pulled over and getting tickets. If you have more than 3 functional brain cells and the mental capacity of a rock, you should be able figure out what's going on in plenty of time to get your belt on. In my opinion, anyone who does get caught at one of these should have their license revoked for "being a dumba** and a danger to society".
But that's my opinion, it's probably way too logical to ever catch on.
I think it's also worth mentioning that this was occuring at a four-way stop. Despite all the flashing lights to get people's attention, there were accidents in two of the 4 directions from which traffic was approaching, requiring the presence of even more police officers.
Damn some people is idiots!!!
