I got my Volant today! :yup: And after removing the stock intake and box, I noticed a film covering the bottom half of the face of my throttle body (the part that opens and closes. It looks to be the color of oil - light brown/tan/dark brown. Anyone know what this is? what caused it? something to take it into the dealer B4 I install Volant? Should I just clean it off? Thanks!

Do you have a K&N filter element? If so, what you're seeing is probably the filter oil. Don't worry about the TB, but make sure the MAF sensor is clean. Stealth uses regular old contact cleaner spray for that task.

no i just removed the stock intake that has the stock paper filter. Does this mean its not filter oil????

Yeah, it's not filter oil. But no need to take it to the dealer unless the car is misperforming. Wipe off the TB, hook up the Volant, and have fun.

This is a very typical problem with a non coated throttle body (Ford is just about the only manufacturer to special coat their TBs). It is just normal carbon build up. It's a good idea to clean the TB every 10, 000 to 12,000 miles. It won't cause any drivability problems, but it will cause very slight emissions increases.

Do you have a catch can? If it's on the side going into the TB couldn't it be blow back oil from not having a catch can? Sounds possible. I took the TB off my GTO last summer and there was a film of oil that I cleaned up; then I added a catch can:)

It is oil vapor deposits from the valve-cover breather tube that's connected to the passenger side of the TB. It is nomal.

I just had a two page post deleted by my two-year old son who just jumped on the laptop...it explained it all, and then some. If you really want to know, just let me know and I'll grab a drink and elaborate...but the short answer is it's normal. Take a look inside your intake manifold by manually opening the TB plate....its all oil covered, right? That's crankcase/valve cover oil-vapor....normal. F'd up but normal.

Yes, Ames, you got it...but not from the crankcase...from the valvecover on the passenger side. I have a catch for the crankcase and it catches 1oz/1K miles...if I put steel wool inside, it'd probably be 2-3oz per 1Kmiles.

The one Ames has is a nice piece but very costly, I probably would've saved a bunch of time just by doing that first...but then I wouldn't have had all that insanity.

I really like the JAZ, and you can plumb the crankcase and valve-cover tube to it. You can find it for about $45, another 5 bucks for tubing....done for $50.
