It’s frighteningly easy to see what your truck is wearing from the factory. GM plastered all the RPO codes on the glovebox door. Depending on how early your truck is manufactured you’ll have:

ZW7 - Premium Smooth (hydraulic) Ride with Nivomat self leveling rear strut struts. No air compressor, No magnetic fluid and no air bags.

Z55 - 07/08 aka Autoride, but n the EXT and Escalade it’s marketed as “road sensing suspension”. Both front and rear struts are filled with Magnetorheological fluid. The rear struts also have air bags and an onboard air compressor to pressurize them.

Z95 - 09 onward aka Magneride on Escalade only. GM rebranded Autoride to Magneride. Same parts, same fluid, same design hardware and software components. The only new was the part numbers name and the almost 100% price increase in replacement parts. Clever huh?Fortunately for 07-14 the days of price gouge on Auto/Mag ride are over.

Wonderful, but this is another chapter of the thread wharlgargle you displayed a few weeks ago. You followed a thread, disputed it and went on to support the opposite of your case and point.

For the sake of others new to the forum, yes Magneride has taken the place of Autoride in 2009. The link you provided explains how the Mag fluid, specifically in Autoride, works on the suspension of the Escalade.

You’ll see the DTC codes for Magneride and Autoride are identical.

Magneride uses no mechanical valves in the shock. It was first used on the 2002.5 Seville STS. "A magnetorheological shock absorber is a damper filled with magnetorheological fluid, which is controlled by a magnetic field, usually using an electromagnet." Long before then, Caddy had SSS (Speed Sensitve Shocks), RSS (Road Sensing Suspension), CVRSS (Continuously Variable Road Sensing Suspension) which were all active hydraulic shock systems on Caddys. I don't think Caddy ever used the term Autoride, but Chevy and GMC did. None of those systems, or any other GM alphabet soup use Magneride as they don't involve magnetic fluid. BTW, the term Magneride is no longer used by GM since Delphi sold the tech to BWI.

Autoride is the same as road sensing suspension or CVRSS (Continuously Variable Road Sensing Suspension) aka electronic suspension. My 2001 Tahoe had Autoride and my 2003 Escalade ESV had Road Sensing Suspension which was exactly the same. GMC & Chevy called it Autoride. The only difference between magnetic ride and electronic ride is the response rate is quicker with magnetic. The 2008 platinum was the first time Escalade had magnetic ride and then in 2009-2014 all Escalades with 22” rims came with magnetic and the Escalades with 18” rims came with the z55 electronic. The setup system was the same between the electronic and magnetic. All 2007-2008 Escalades had the electronic except the 2008 platinum. To tell you the truth there is not that big of a difference between the both and the electronic shocks actually last longer than the magnetic.

 

Servicing GM Autoride Rear Air Suspension

 

Arnott is the source that confirmed what’s been stated. Note their install video showing cross compatibility between the different GM models and years.

Here’s a good read from 2019. You’ll see on page 5 dark horse chimes in to advise that 07-14 owners can add the later model integrated trailer brake controller. He’s known for grafting a 3/4 ton Duramax diesel into his 08 Escalade.

He’s also planning to install Auto/Magneride struts on it too [emoji3]

I am curious if anyone has a definitive answer as to whether the z95 mrc (magnetic ride control) shock will work on a z55 (bi-state shock) system, the connector and appearance are identical, the internals are were the differences are with the oil being controlled magnetically (mrc i.e. z95)...
