i have a B&M short shifter in my 2006 V and for about a month no problems at all and recently i started getting a bad grind going into reverse ... if i put it in 2nd the go to reverse no issues anybody have any ideas whats goin on here ?

The inability to get into reverse with the motor running is the standard test for a dragging clutch. On a CTS-V the mose likely culprit is an inadequate level of clutch fluid. For a more complete discussion of other causes see the recent thread listed below:

In your case, to state the obvious, it may relate to the recently installed shifter, but that would not be my first guess.
