Thanks, that was very well done.
as far as the water pump bolts are concerned; the Chilton manual reads remove the water pump bolts and "discard all bolts" on all years 3.0 and 3.6 engines. the Chilton manual is available on line all you need is a library card.

Yep, when I replaced mine I bought the OEM pump because it was the only one I knew came with new bolts and gasket.

That didn't stop me from snapping one of the new bolts by overtightening because I also watched the same video and tried to tighten them to 22 lb. ft. Mine was not sticking out at all though, and ended up using a left hand drill bit which took it right out easily.

Yeah, someone really needs to edit that video or something. Are there ANY versions of the CTS that require 22 lb ft torque - or is that video just all kinds of wrong? I also found this list that gave the 11/22 thing....although maybe they got the info from that video? https://www.cadillacowners.com/foru...com/forum/62-general-09-up-cts-v-questions/9775-complete-torque-specs-list.html

Anyway, just goes to show you how you always need to be careful looking stuff up on the internet :suspense:

Just like your door actuator and motor mount videos... EXCELLENT quality, content, and narration.
Thanks for the contributions! :highfive:

You guys/gals are just too kind :)

I've got a whole playlist of videos on this CTS too: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLfpkDMSzDlahnybumEfOwbZVyvdiY3NcG
As well as on our SRX: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLfpkDMSzDlajrTRE5yedI2f9I89g7QnrH

As both these cars age it's getting to be more and more of an adventure - so I'm sure there will be more to come.....stay tuned....lol :wacky:

Hmm so you can't reuse the original bolts? I will be doing this job tomorrow and plan to reuse the factory bolts but use a little blue locktite if necessary.

Why would you need to replace the bolts otherwise? They are not torque to yield?

Re: Replaced the water pump in my 2008 CTS This weekend...

This is some additional information I dug up on bolt replacement:

New Bolts Required, New Torque Specification on HFV6 Water Pump
July 2, 2012

A new water pump fastening procedure has been implemented on all High Feature V6 engines (2.8L, 3.0L, and 3.6L) on all models(2004-2013 model years) to help reduce the potential for water pump gasket leaks. This new procedure requires NEW bolts to be used when attaching a water pump. It also requires a third pass with an additional 45 degree turn when tightening the bolts. The new torque procedure puts the bolts into yield, so the bolts MUST be replaced when they are removed. Old/reused bolts will break if reinstalled. The following procedure applies to all model years and all RPOs of the HFV6 engine.

1. Ensure that the engine front cover andwater pump are clear of old gasket material.
2. Ensure that the water pump mounting boltholes in the front cover are completelyclean and dry.
3. Place a new water pump gasket on the water pump.
4. Place the water pump in position on the front cover.
5. Install the water pump bolts finger tight.
6. Tighten the water pump bolts in sequenceto 10 N·m (89 lb. in.).
7. Tighten the water pump bolts a second passin sequence to 10 N·m (89 lb. in.).
8. Tighten the bolts a final pass in the sequenceshown an additional 45 degrees.

Thanks davedogcaddy! I'm actually using one of your Videos to replace the front passenger door actuator. The water pump will be next up to replace.
funny thing - about a month after replacing that actuator, the one on the OTHER rear door died. So soon I'll be using that video.... :ill:

Re: Replaced the water pump in my 2008 CTS This weekend...

Just finished researching replacement water pumps on ebay. I didn't see any shipped with new bolts. Thank You for taking the time to point this small but important detail out (17:30 minute mark of your video).

PS - The passenger front door actuator replacement went flawless! Well, I did try to purchase a new (other) = used item from an individual seller on ebay. It kinda appeared that they might have purchased and didn't need for whatever reason. Well you guessed it. It was the wrong part. Ended up having to go to my local Cadillac stealership and getting the part while the car was still torn down. Let me add that I'm not actually the one turning these bolts, so you know I was called everything but a child of God!

Re: Replaced the water pump in my 2008 CTS This weekend...

Yeah, i almost ALWAYS buy OEM, but no one local that was open had it and I didn't feel comfortable with my wife continuing to drive the car while I waited for it to arrive (she has a long commute and we discovered this on a Saturday evening, so it would have been mid week at least to get the part). So I picked up a brand new Duralast one from AutoZone, lifetime warranty, blah blah blah. About $96. Hopefully that doesn't bite me down the road. Pump looked identical anyway. How hard is it for them to screw up manufacturing a pump ;)

Time will tell...

Re: Replaced the water pump in my 2008 CTS This weekend...

I bought a pump off rock auto for $47... Bought OEM bolts to replace the old ones... $50.... WTF... How do 6 very small bolts cost more than the pump....

Didn't feel comfortable with what the TSB said... I set my torque wrench to the lowest setting it had... It goes to 120in/lbs but you can dial it down and MAYBE its 108.

Coated the new gasket with a small amount of form a gasket for water pumps and installed it. I tightened the bolts as far as I dared. Did not wait for it to click. Have put about 100 miles on it since and no leaks on it so I am thinking it should be fine.
